Introduction: Insulated Battery Box

Picture of Insulated Battery Box

Keeping batteries under optimal temperature conditions increases their lifespan and power output. For a couple of dollars I made an insulated battery box to support the solar battery system and prevent freezing and overheating.

Step 1: Parts

Battery, foam cooler, duct tape

Step 2: Flip and Cut the Foam Box

Place the battery in the lid of the box and cover the battery with the bottom of the box. Take a utility knife and cut around the outside of the box around the top of the battery. I measured then drew a line around the box to get a straight edge.

Step 3: Duct Tape Time

Wrap the edges with duct tape to prevent more foam from breaking apart. I also added additional cuts for the wires.

Step 4: Connect and Finish

Connect the power supply for charging and juice. You are complete. You can leave the box on a piece of wood or directly on concrete without excessive drainage.

I can't get a clear picture of your set up. can this be used in an RV with batteries for solar?

yes - I've used it in small trailers and only added a tie down to keep everything from moving
