Introduction: How to Make Tissue Paper Pom-Poms
Having a party or just want to liven up your home?
These tissue paper flowers are inexpensive, easy for anyone to make, and will bring instant interest and color to any room.
The following instructions are divided into nine steps.
Step 1: Materials
For these instructions, you will need:
Colored tissue paper
Pipe cleaners or floral wire
Scissors
Fishing line
Clear thumbtacks
Step 2: Setting Up
Neatly stack at least 10 sheets of tissue paper on a hard, flat surface.
Step 3: Folding Part 1
Accordion-fold the stack of paper. Aim for about 1 ½ inch folds.
Step 4: Folding Part 2
Fold in half.
Step 5: Tying
Tie a pipe cleaner or floral wire snugly around the center fold.
Step 6: Starting the Petals
Start with either the left or right half of the accordion-folded paper. Begin pulling individual layers of tissue paper up. These are the flower’s “petals.” (Don’t worry if the tissue paper tears. Chances are, when the flower is finished, it won’t be noticeable). Continue until about halfway through the layers.
Step 7: More Petals
Pull the remaining layers down. This will complete one hemisphere of the flower.
Step 8: Finishing the Petals
Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the other side of the folded paper.
Step 9: Hanging
For a quick hanging solution, tie a length of fishing line around the pipe cleaner. Tie a small loop on the other end of the fishing line, insert a clear thumbtack into the loop, and attach it to the ceiling.
Step 10: And You're Done!
Step 11: Extra: More Options!
Cut down tissue paper for smaller flowers.
After completing step 2, cut curved or pointed edges into the folded tissue paper for different petal styles.
Use two or more colors of tissue paper per flower, alternating as you wish.
Use ribbon to add even more color.
