You can leave it as is or go for some more realism by gluing some toys, bookends, or even a fake drink to the bottom of the board to complete the look!

Russian is pretty hard I hear. Also do dead languages count? If so what about Greek or Latin.

rosa.bernardez says: Aug 6, 2009. 11:27 PM
Such a wonder. With this design you don't need to clean the dust on the books. It is a dust-proof design.

Yes! Dust in books is so disgusting.
0087adam in reply to picaqAug 18, 2009. 10:34 PM
Dust in books means they aren't read enough; donate them to a local school or library.
Archive555 in reply to 0087adamSep 21, 2009. 11:42 PM
I disagree. Dust in books means you loved the book so much you want your kids and grandkids to read it, when and if you have them.
lycoris3 in reply to 0087adamSep 14, 2009. 2:06 PM
I just got a bunch of very old books with a puff of dust in all of them. I'm still coughing from the 1894 one. (Hack, sniff, sneeze!!) There was another one I got from 1914. Both poetry. Romance, but I find that funny.
Rishnai says: Oct 2, 2008. 5:10 PM
Love it! Regarding you suggestion of gluing a fake drink to the bottom to complete the realism, I seem to recall Hobby Lobby and the like selling plastic flowers in vases with "water" that looks amazingly real, but is solid. Does anyone know what this is, or how I could get a similar effect with stuff I can get at Home Depot?
Gage987 in reply to RishnaiSep 9, 2009. 5:45 PM
my dad works at a furniture store and to say they have stain proof-ness the have fake spills wine, milk, glue, and ice cream.
lycoris3 in reply to Gage987Sep 14, 2009. 2:03 PM
my dad when he was in high school took a class for ads and how they do those things. The fake spill things were one of the many very odd things they used. The "milk" for the cereal commercials? Water-downed glue.

LordOlimar in reply to RishnaiAug 27, 2009. 2:06 PM
I used to work at Michael's Arts and Crafts. We sold a product (the name I can't remember for the life of me - sorry) that was meant to resemble water. It was used in fake Floral designs. Basically you just added water to the pre-packaged mix, poured it into whatever container you were using, and let it dry. It was pretty permanent though from what I remember, so make sure you're using a container you don't really need any more. I'm pretty sure they would sell this at Hobby Lobby, Jo-Anne's, etc also. Pretty much any arts place that sells fake flowers. You could definitely use that. Just go in, describe the product, and they should know exactly what you're talking about. You may even be able to add coloring to make it look like something besides water (although I don't know anyone who's tried it before).
bassclarinet23 in reply to LordOlimarNov 15, 2009. 8:43 AM
Let me know if you remember what the mix was called...it sound pretty practical for what I plan to do.
LordOlimar in reply to bassclarinet23Nov 15, 2009. 12:10 PM
I did a quick search.  The product we sold was called Quick Water.  I can't find it on the Michael's website, so I'm not sure if they still sell it or not.

There is a short description of it here:  http://www.save-on-crafts.com/quicwat12ozs.html
bassclarinet23 in reply to LordOlimarNov 15, 2009. 12:20 PM
Okay, thanks. I'll look for it.
Myself in reply to RishnaiOct 4, 2008. 8:31 AM
Plain old WEST epoxy should cure pretty clear. It's pretty expensive per ounce, but it'd sure hold tight! I wouldn't glue it to the shelf, though. First, don't use a wooden shelf: Get a metal shelf and put woodgrain shelf paper on it. (Use screws to attach the elastic band?) Then affix tiny magnets to the toys and brick-a-brack, so you can unstick them from the bottom at any time, too. My kingdom to whoever figures out how to do an umop-apisdn fountain, piggybank, or candybowl. :)
mikeyberman in reply to MyselfJan 6, 2009. 11:33 PM
A piggybank could be done with a vertical line of greased magnets of increasing strength (increasing as you go upwards). But it wouldn't hold much money at all...
mandae17 in reply to mikeybermanMar 22, 2009. 12:11 AM
Depends where the slot for inserting money was in relation to the rest of the piggybank
mikeyberman in reply to mandae17Mar 22, 2009. 4:57 AM
Ah true, you'd just need a fake slot on the bottom :) Seems so obvious now :P
mandae17 in reply to mikeybermanMar 22, 2009. 9:58 PM
Maybe have the mouth of the pig (for example) as the actual coin slot but yes, have a fake coin slot in the normal place on the back/bottom/inverted top of it xD
lycoris3 in reply to mandae17Sep 14, 2009. 2:04 PM
cool, maybe i should do that for my whole room :D
stevoman97 in reply to lycoris3Jan 22, 2010. 3:45 AM
But how would you get the money out if the pig were glued to the shelf?

chikid68 in reply to RishnaiOct 2, 2008. 7:58 PM
just use plastic flowers and a cheap vase and some "liquid Glass" aka sodium silicate it is available at most shipping supply houses and many pharmacies. Pour it slowly in the vase to avoid bubbles and allow it to start setting and just push the flowers into it or you could just put the flowers in the vase and then pour
Rishnai in reply to chikid68Oct 2, 2008. 8:06 PM
"Sodium silicate". Got it, thanks!

gamemasterful in reply to chikid68Jan 10, 2009. 12:05 AM
Hot glue might also work for the water but probably wouldn't be as clear. It would depend on the specific type of hotglue I'm guessing.

j626no in reply to KEYBOARDISBROKENJan 22, 2009. 10:32 PM
I'm sorry. You're correct, it is hypocritical, but you were pointing out the obvious. But me stating that it was "not hypocritical in the least bit. merely showing how irritating it is" was intended to show reciprocity on WIMONMAS. As WIMONMAS had offended _Ko0LaiD_ with his or her actions, _Ko0Laid_ was reciprocating the irritation. It is this principal that legal systems relied on for a long time, and albeit they are not considered politically correct in today's society, this is the principal that modern correctional prison facilities are founded upon. Now if you wanted to think of the legal system as hypocrisy you could, but that's an ignorant decision on your part.
ixisuprflyixi in reply to j626noFeb 3, 2009. 1:52 PM
I think there is NOTHING more hypocritical than the legal system itself, speaking philosophically of course. Although, I do not see what is so annoying about caps lock. The characters themselves are only slightly discernable from a normal font. Peculiar what irritates some people.

The caps may be on because the writer has a visual impairment. I know computer ettiquete states that capital words imply yelling, but the person may not know it. Explaining gently would be kinder. This is a "be nice community"

Keeter says: Jan 23, 2009. 1:45 AM
I would like to see a version with two stacks of books, meaning another row on top of those books (or, below them, depending on how you look at it :P ). Not on top of the shelf, but floating below those books. I'm guessing you'd just have to double up on straps, and make the lengths compensate for the books above them, but I'm curious as to how secure it would be.
