hi! is there a way to build it without damaging the wall? I live in a tiny rented flat and am in desperate need find a way to put all my books away without getting evicted. And normal bookselves are not possible...trust me. I have way too many books, stuff and crazy book eating cats.
In some apartments, you are required not to do anything to the walls. Most other places you can put anything into the walls you want as long as you putty over it later. Putting a screw into a stud isn't really damaging anything except the drywall. Check your lease, or Goog a "Renter's Rights" guide or something similar for your city.
If you have many books the invisible bookshelf probably wouldn't work as it's not going to hold a million books. You could build a really tall bookshelf and only put books where the cats can't get to them. Also, you could do a bookshelf with doors on it. Maybe find some used windows to make a bookcase door out of.
Huh, Check this out, someone is selling a product similar that doesn't ruin your book: http://www.smartfurniture.com/products/Conceal-Floating-Bookshelves.html?att=186&cid=1
Seriously amazing idea! Can't wait to go find a good hardcover book that I don't care about destroying. I love my Stephen King books, so I refuse to glue one shut :)
This is so great, I'm going to do this with some of my action figures/collectibles actually, and this is just perfect for that! I just hope I don't *cave* in and buy the Conceal Shelf off the Amazon link greeneyzblue just posted above, cuz what's the fun in that if I didn't MAKE it myself! ;D....ok ok, maybe I'll buy one or two just to tide me over, but I'm STILL making these! Great share, dorxincandeland!
calm down if you looked and read the instructions those books aren't hurt just the bottom one and eragon is a great book by the way recommended it to all fictional readers and others to:)
I'm doing this project too, and I just thought about the secret compartment idea on the top side. Can't wait. Right now I'm just having a problem screwing the pages by hand. Don't know if I should clamp this down before I do it.
Ha! You think the Sticklebook is expensive. Your floating bookshelf immediately reminded me of this: Invisible BookshelfInvisible Bookshelf I've wanted one of these for so long - I think I'll try your idea first and save about $280 (plus shipping).
perhaps those cheap combs that little kids get. thats what those remind me of. Secure them with thin aluminum angle brackets. and tiny screws in the combs.
I actually have a solution it's pretty simple. I am working on the final details. I think it will be really cheap...like less than $20 maybe even less than $10.
