if you're just making small decals, would it work on laptops?
RiddleOfSphinx in reply to SxkyiluDec 13, 2009. 6:27 PM
I've seen this method described on several other sites. For a laptop I'd use clear contact paper though.
Coliflower in reply to SxkyiluDec 11, 2009. 11:21 AM
Probably.  But you have to be careful, and it'd be very difficult.

Firstly, you'll need a big enough picture and a big enough bowl to soak it in.
You'll also have a lot of trouble getting an even rub-off, etc.

Logically, It should work on a laptop if it works well on an iPod.
banhpho says: Dec 8, 2009. 10:03 AM
I love this idea.. but do you have any tips on rubbing the paper off more evenly?  The image turns out a little blotchy.

Like there's something wrong with buying quality merchandise? Go ahead and buy the cheap quality MP3 players and support WalMart instead. Your protest will go unnoticed. This is a great idea for customizing a great product.
Crash2108 in reply to LasVegasNov 12, 2006. 11:48 PM
Just because you spent $200 more than you should of doesn't mean you're getting "quality". Ipods have been known to be the poorest built of all mp3 players. The screen and batteries are shit.
TheOneGreatX in reply to Crash2108Nov 13, 2006. 7:16 PM
funny you should say that, because I've heard very very few problems with iPods that are hardware based. And not very many about the software either. What do you propose we use instead of iPods? Because I think that the iPod is the best mp3 player on the market, and I'm not an apple fanboy by any means.
Crash2108 in reply to Crash2108Nov 12, 2006. 11:48 PM
And all you are buying with an ipod is an expensive fad.
gage6917 in reply to Crash2108Sep 27, 2009. 4:58 AM
Lol, wow, and expensive "fad" thats lasted over 8 years now. iPods are great.
zjharva in reply to Crash2108May 17, 2008. 8:18 PM
have you ever had an ipod? great product. now my family has a macintosh!
mellamokiwi (author) in reply to Crash2108Nov 13, 2006. 12:45 AM
i do think ipods are a little overpriced but mine works great and it is very durable
geekazoid in reply to mellamokiwiDec 7, 2009. 12:57 PM
someone talking sense. Apple makes grerat quality products.. they are great - if you can afford them. For the money though, other mp3's can be a better deal... i have an iPod  touch and it's great, but I had to save for a LOOOOOOONNG time...

I have an iPod Nano, but I bought it from a private seller without headphones for $50. Now that's a good deal. I would rather buy an MP3 player from Creative at full price though. I do feel bad for the people who go and buy an 80G iPod video and don't put videos on it, and the people who use the default headphones (THEY SUCK). It seems people treat them more like a fashion statement more than a functional device.
dixiechopper20 says: Dec 16, 2008. 9:07 AM
anybody know how to make the tape stickier after the paper comes off and it has dried.
dixiechopper20 says: Dec 16, 2008. 9:04 AM
use warm water it works much better. and leave on for like 15 min then u can peel paper off in almost 1 peice.

does it have to be a magazine
teh darkcloud says: Jan 3, 2008. 11:33 PM
Nice. But I was wondering, since it's tape how long will it stick before it starts to peel off?
mellamokiwi (author) in reply to teh darkcloudJan 4, 2008. 10:11 PM
thats a good question. depending on how much abuse it takes the tape will eventually begin to peel off. i couldnt say exactly how long because i change mine quite frequently =)

Ah, okay then, thanks. :)

Hey, I tried this on my iPod mini and I'm having trouble getting it to stick. Do you rub off ALL the residue until you have just the plastic left? or do you leave some of the stuff on there?
mellamokiwi (author) in reply to N0s3Nugg3tJun 14, 2007. 8:00 PM
the trick is that you should get the tape a little moist in order to re activate the stick. its a process that involves a little experimentation.
N0s3Nugg3t in reply to mellamokiwiJun 16, 2007. 10:34 AM
Ah cool, thank you
