Peltor brand earmuffs are perfect for this. there's a rim inside that holds the speaker in place.

I attach a sticker to the outside of the right earpiece of every set of headphones I own. That way I don't have figure out which one is the right side. You can also figure out which one is the right side by touch without having to switch the lights on at night.
