Jump a Dead Car Battery

Step 4The dead car

The dead car
now its gets a little different
the black Jumper cable clamp goes to where the cable is attached to the motor
most important to ground the motor to the jumper cable
it has to do with not arcing the dead battery (yes it can explode)
then the red Jumper cable gets clamped to the “ + “ Positive post

This is a little bit incorrect: If you would do it in this order, you could put the black '-' cable directly to the '-' terminal of the battery as well.
The point of putting the black cable on a metal (grounded) part of the car (like the motor itself) instead of the '-' terminal is to avoid the battery from exploding or leaking acid:
First you connect the red '+' cable to the '+' terminal of the dead battery and THEN you connect the black '-' cable to a grounded metal part of the car. That way if there was a lightning (the arcing), sparks won't be near the battery itself. This way it's safer!!

I always knew to ground to the engine or something, but never knew why until now. Thanks.
