K'nex pump action rifle code:OSNJCKMA2

This is my third K'nex assault rifle. The name comes from the fact that my brother james wanted a gun as well, so when I pounded him with my other gun, he could retaliate (Oh shit, Now James Can Kick My Ass Too!)

Interesting features:
10 round side-loading mag
Vertical pin blocker (for firing pin)
Sliding trigger

Step one has been completed, Feel free to comment on that. I make it with mlcad, but I havn't gotten the povray conversions to work, so if anyone else want to give is a whack, let me know.

Has pretty good instruction videos, but he doesn't mention me on the site. The license I released the gun under require attribution, so yell at him to give me some credit or I'm going to have him shut down. :) (blogger and webs.com both respect DMCA takedown notices)

Step 1: The Hopper

The hopper of this gun is a solution to the problems I had with my 2nd gun. I jammed, BAD. Not often, but when it did, you needed to darn near take apart the whole front end to fix it. That and the fact it took un-godly amounts of time to load (20 rounds, drop in). With this system, ALL of the rounds are accessible at any time, and can be placed properly with much more ease. Both sides open, for both lefties, and righties, and both snap closed securely with no wonkey cut up pieces.

Some of the pictures are of a out-of-gun replica built for better visibility.

Not realy... It doesnt even have a barrel so its very inacurate and has poor range I would recomend adding a barrel on the end it increaces the range to about 35+ feet... I am curently making a instructable and mods for this gun I will post a link to it when Im done!

I made it, and when I shot it the round didn't fire, all of the rounds in the hopper just shifted. Also when it did fire, there was barely any power, even with 4 elastic bands. Did I do something wrong?

Well you would of done something wrong with the hopper because mine never jams or shifts but the range of the gun even with 4+ elastic bands is only 25 feet

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but...your mag sucks. When I fire, it pops open and pins go fying everywhere. You really need to work on it. Other than that, the gun is great!

are you sure the mag door is in properly? or, you could strap rubberbands do the doors to keep it closed.

hey, great gun. I made it and then changed it a bit. Same force, etc. I like the changes and so might you. What I made was a bottom-loading mag ( removable and easy to store while loaded. This also gives the shooter a better line of sight. Next, I modified the trigger to be farther out and to turn, like a real gun. Lastly, I added a second block, in front of the round, to secure it, allowing the shooter to fire upside down, straight down, etc. Should I post?

ok looks like an awsome gun for sure but how does a pump action gun = assault rifle? pump action = pump once to fire. assault rifle is a gun that has uses high caliber ammo like normal rifles but is also automatic. thus it cannot me an assault rifle. honestly and modestly the best real knex assault rifle i have ever seen happens to be my own...no joke only problem is it does fit the high caliber mark as it only uses dark grey connectors while most rifles here use at least blue rods=orange connector

well in reality for a higher caliber you need a bigger barrel so you can use higher cailber ammo...but seeing that you cant do this very well it just depends on the magezine and what it loads. it kinda goes that green rods and white rods and i guess somewhat darkgreys being in between are the smaller calibers then blue yellow and orange connecters connected with dark grey connectors are the higher and some people use red and grey rods when their gun is very powerful. All in all...just change what it is able to load to get a higher caliber.

Good gun? Or GREAT gun! Actually, I made this and think it is excellent. Just one problem. With one rubberband, I have ridiculous rate of fire, but terrible range. I can get the shot a good 25 feet with more rubberbands; however I have an issue. The trigger becomes difficult to release. As in I'll press on it, but because the yellow firing pin is pushing so forcefully on the blue stopper pin, it becomes unreliable. This greatly deters my rate of fire. Any pointers you could give me?

knex trust me on this this gun is not good until someone makes some major changes to it. 1. it needs a new barrel 2. yes the block works well but when trying to use the pump action feature the gun doesnt block he firing pin it goes bak but not far enough 3. it needs to be stronger and finally 4. i dont hink this guy comes on nymore

I think they mean the overal shape is that of a P-90. The shape does look like a P-90 but that's where I draw the line. The trigger is in the wrong place for instance, and the P-90 is a top to forward fed magizine style gun, so that completely rules out that this could be a P-90.

They are one and the same, the rc just stands for the manufacturer or something. I think it is the manufacturer name, but I'm not sure. I remember it thought, ah, goldeneye, what a sweet game. why don't modern shooters have throwing knives. they were the best.

Okay, everybody, I have the answer to one of the biggest questions concerning this instructable. The long pin that the trigger slides backwards is connected to that yellow rod that lifts the firing pin guard, and lets the gun fire. I hope you all knew that. However, what is not visible in the picture is that it is connected with one of the BALL SOCKET JOINTS found on the little knex people. Just thought you'd like to know.

Also, when the hopper on most guns I built got low, the rods above the one getting fired had a tendency to jump outa the hopper when fired. An when I tried a compression hopper, the hoppers bulged on it's sides an the rods spill out some or it jammed. My dual hopper though I've found to work nicely because of a lowerable inner top in the hopper, so that the rods don't jump an land back all funny in the hopper.

I built a dual shot pump action gun, useing this as the bases of it all. My ammo hoppers holds 20-21 blue rods each, so the gun has 40-42 shots befor reloading is needed. Also, not sure what i did while building it, but to fire the 2nt shot, i have to pull the trigger a little harder, so I could shoot 2 rods 20-21 times, or 1 rod 40-42 times. As soon as I figure out how to get pictures from my camra dock to my computer, I'll post em, with a pick of it's inners.

Just made this gun phew.. I have one question, when i pull back the pump thing the firing pin doesnt come out that far enough for it to lock on the "firing pin control" How could I change that?

This is an awesome gun. I made a while ago, when i didn't have an account, but i still think it looked cool. When i brought it out on the school bus, people were like "Holy S***, this guy's a terrorist! However, i didn't actually fire it, seeing as the rods barely leave the gun. Maybe you could make it better i.e. make it go further than a metre.

Generally schools have rules against ever the "likeness" of a gun. People are pansies now days. I know how to shoot a gun, rifle or handgun, and I intend to get a gun and a concealed weapons permit as soon as I can afford it.

ok first of all, you probably built the firing pin wrong. second, you need you need stronger rubber bands.third, stop being an idiot and follow the pics, or else it will turn out wrong.

I made some improvements I reinforced the firing pin by alot, fixed the handle cause i didnt like this one, wit hsome other minor adjustments in these pics first pic is what my gun looks like, second is an addition to the hopper, i added a peach connector in front of the orange connector so when you add a bunch of rubber bands to the firing pin in wont snap your orange connector( happened to me) I also extended the yellow rod that was connected to the barrel to a black rod for more support and added more orange connectors for reinforcement. then the black rod snaps into a blue rod with some spacers i added rt where the black rod extends 2. Hope this helps.

Here is a mod for the pump action rifle. It is shoulder rest the fits firm into the users arm. I have also taken a pic of the sweet band that goes around it. I advise people to use these as they make perect rests for spipering, plus there comfertable.

I didn't really make this gun to be high power, but it seems the double rail system works well for that. I should probably make a bigger hopper sometime. ~15-20 rounds.

I just made you extra long mag and it's arwsome. Thanks for the help, the only problem was that at the top where the mag connects to the green connecters and red connecter. It wasn't the right size so i had to force it on. So not good for the knex o well it's still cool thanks

It doesnt need to be forced too badly so it should be ok. Also to make it more reliable ticking tape over the holes in the orange connectors helps stop the ammo getting caught.

Looks like you forgot a rear rail (I shouldn't say forgot, as you couln't see it, but for lack of a better word). I had the grey connector on the right sliding on a second rail connected to the yellow connectors. It added stability.

I am, despite my best efforts, neither a K'nex gun user, modder or builder. This i blame on the general lack of K'nex in my vicinity, however, i know what i like and i like this. The higher-end K'nex guns are all poems in applied design and production, showing a detailed understanding of friction, the strength tolerances of the materials used and ballistics. Still playing with the pistol idea, but I'm putting a little more (as in I havn't done homework in... 4 days) focus on a true semi-automatic gun. I'm using several rubberbands to pull back the firing pin with only one rubberband, and then release. My goal is five shots from a magazine or hopper.

Didn't work well. I also tried a gravity powered one. A big weight dropped on a string and pulled back the pin a few times. Much more consistent, but far too awkward. I'm playing with the idea of having four firing pins you pull back at once and fire individually. Being innovative sucks.

The back-end is very robust and solid, but the front, where all the action is, seems a bit flimsy. That is of no concern, however because what works, works. Besides, I can't see any way to really structurally improve the front without adding unnecessary weight.

As a pump-action, I really hate making comparisons because the two (meaning this and the Shifle) are brothers in the category. I will say this, though. I have a lot of faith in pump-actions; that once mastered they'll be very desirable. I've never made my own, I probably should some time.

I like that this one accomplishes the same general task but in a smaller package and by using fewer mechanically moving parts. It was made simpler by putting the hopper right in front (where it belongs, I say) and the slider directly behind. Less wasted space and more travel-size, two great plusses that give this gun uniqueness, but of course this comes at the cost of power, seeing as it only has a yellow rod's distance of track to work with on the slider. But that's not a bad thing! Us K'nex gunners are always impressed more by 'how' itself rather than 'how much' or 'how far'. Besides, I cannot judge its power because nothing else of this compact size can do the same thing. I do agree with everyone else that it is an area worth improving on, though.

I LOVE the hopper. It is unique and emphasizes convenience over capacity, going well with the convenience of pump-action firing.

All and all, I'm quite impressed, just as I was with the Shifle. No offense mepain, yours was a solid start, this is a solid step forward.

Pump-action K'nex guns in general are awesome.

As new knex technologies are discovered, guns will evolve into more compact, more powerful, and much easier weapons to use. The way I see it, nothing is impossible until it is proven impossible.

I made this based on the pictures and is is really cool! Never jams either! It only shot 10 feet though... Is there any way to make it stronger?

The anchor points for the firing rubber band can definitely take a few more rubber bands, but the actual firing pin I'm not so sure about. If you wanted more power though, that's how you would do it.

i think this has a better design and is more simple than the shifle, yet the shifle has more ammo, and its bigger (i like big guns) and its stronger too... but still i like both guns, but what im really looking for, is a machine gun that isnt gona need chain links, because of 2 main reasons: 1. its more realistic. 2. i have only 4 chain links :( anyways i like the MG oodalumps made, and ofcource trainman's MG, and now i noticed the begginer gat gun that traindude made... i like ti too and ill build it tomorrow if ill have time... im making a huge project for school...

I'm working on a pistol. I DEFINITELY want to include a removeable mag on that. Unfortunately. This gun isn't built that way. It wouldn't be too hard to change that, as the hopper only has two connections. but the hopper is too complicated and bulky for that to be pratical anyway. Maybe with a simpler one.

Well, not really. Once you get used to it, you can usually but 4 or 5 in at once. Thats the advantage of the side loading part.
