A very easy to build K'NEX gun using only basic pieces and rubberbands that is surprisingly strong and extremely powerful. This may be a toy but it is much more powerful than your average dart gun so be careful with it.

Build time: ~10-15min
Distance: estimated at 70-80ft (this has not been tested nor have I put the maximum amount of rubberbands on the gun)

Pieces needed:
Connectors:
 • 11 white
 • 7 yellow
 • 6-7 green
 • 8 reds
 • 1 light gray
 • 2 dark gray
 • 1 orange
Rods
 • 2 blue
 • 19 white
 • 34 green

Firing Pin
 • 1 black rod (length of gray rod but stronger)
 • 1 white rod
 • 1 orange connector
 • 1 tan clip

Non-K'NEX parts
 • black tape (aka electrical insulation tape)
 • rubberbands (I got mine from the Hobby Lobby, they're made to hold the wing on a model plane, but I'm sure the broccoli bands would work)

Step 1: Barrel

These are the parts for the barrel, first build the three layers then attach together at every indicated spot. It may be easier to just build the center portion then attach each white piece one by one.

One additional thing, there is a green piece connected in the center at the spot marked (0), this piece is not require but it really helps to keep the firing pin from jumping out of the track when it is cocked. I also wrapped this one rod in black tape to help keep it in nice and tight.

Step 2: Firing Mechanism

I've provided multiple pictures so it can be more easily constructed. Just connect the catch to the trigger with a white connector and hinge it all on a second white connector. Also note that I wrapped the trigger in black tape; this is highly suggested to reinforce the trigger.

Don't forget the rubberband to hold the firing mechanism down until the trigger is pulled.

Step 3: Grip & Finishing Touches

First, clip four (4) white rods into one (1) white piece as shown in the first photo. Then attach pieces to each side of the white connector as shown so you have a three piece wide grip.

OK, now slide the grip onto the bottom of the barrel as shown in the second photo and secure with a green rod on each side. Then slide a white rod though where indicated; you will have to flex the grip backwards a bit and the rod won't clip in but the flexed grip actually holds the rod in place nicely.

Now, just wrap your rubberbands around the yellow clip (which one depends on your rubberbands) and put in the blue rod at the back to help secure the firing pin.

How did I make my firing pin? with a black rod (same as gray rod but stronger) with a tan clip on it, a white rod with a orange clip, and plenty of black tape...there are much better firing pins out there so I recommend you find one (just search "K'NEX Gun") rather than use mine...

Well, as soon as you have the firing pin in with the rubberbands wrapped around it, just drop a yellow rod into the top of the barrel, cock it, aim and fire away.

ojochris has built a magazine with this gun that doesn't jam https://www.instructables.com/id/Knex-Magazine/?ALLSTEPS

I may add some additional add-ons, such as a proper firing rod and a fieldlight (in the works) if I am so inclined.

Looks kinda like a Beretta, eh?

some old chat

Cool

how do you make a magizine for this gun
Coud I use this trigger system in my single-shot sniper rifle. Please respond soon so I can post it.
Cool! Thanx but I have a couple of problems. 1. I took the gun apart. 2. I didn't take a pic of it. and 3. I dont know How to send pics to people.
niether do i
probably
Yes everyone should feel free to modify and/or use any part of this gun, the whole reason I posted it is so it could inspire others...just send me a link so I can check yours out!
Nice gun!
yeh, its real easy and cool
black rods are super strong grey rods used for gears and liek the motor things,
Same reason why some red rods are tan
I only have 1 black rod in all of my liek... 1000 knex...
How does the black rod play in??????????????
How do the rubber bands go on?
Sweet!!
i don't get how to make the firing pin. could you take some close up pictures of that?
awesome gun! i love how easy it is to mod. i added dual hoppers to the top of the gun.
here's a pic of the mods i have made
does that have two magazines?
sure does
your gun is soooooo. AAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOO MMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEE. i like the dual mags. ALOT
WHats the point of two mags?
idk. but it looks cool
Nope, not to me. Don't you think it looks a little on the bulky side?
probably
its actually not that heavy, and the dual mags let me shoot two different types of k'nex
nice improvements, i also modded to the gun i made better iron sights, made the gun look more compact, and a better true trigger.
also the gun just with 2 thin rubberbands on mine will pierce a box with a gray head i tried it it hit the box and it bounced all the way back and nearly hit my head now bear in mind the gray piece is very dull on the tip.
Hey, I know you probably arent on anymore, but I just wanted to drop by. This was the second knex gun I ever made, and I loved it. It was pretty inspiring. 5*
i modded it to have a bullet lock and a better look. It's a shotgun i would show a pic but i don't know how. It put a hole in my pvc potato cannon!!!!!!
potato cannon!!!!! i just got a book on how to make one out of pvc and other stuff like a tennis ball mortar. AND YES I KNOW IM LATE ON THIS COMMENT IT GETS ANNOYING WHEN PEOPLE KEEP SENDING ME REPLYS THAT IM LATE ON A COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds cool, wouldn't mind seeing a pic...It's pretty simple, just click the reply button, then the "add images" button then at the bottom it will say "Upload Images / Files", just click on the "Browse..." button and find the picture on your computer and click "Open". Then click "upload" and the pic will upload. After that, just post your comment and your pic will be at the bottom of the post. OK, maybe it's not that simple, guess I'll have to make a new instructable :-D
I modded it to be a assult rifle it shoots through card board (realy thick) from 20ft. Unsharpened but sharpened VERY LITTLE. My shotgun mod is my picture. :) It also has safety from breaking rubber bands! Easy way of showing you.
I hope it works. Here it is. BTW thanks.
It didn't work.
http://www.hotmail.comis this a rubberband gun ?
no, it fires knex
awsome gun! :)
I added a detachable mag to the bottom of this, it's pretty cool and works well too. I'll post it if any1 wants me to. BTW it doesn't use any fancy parts like y connectors or ball joints or anything like that.
I built the instructable but the pin keeps going over the bullet I put into it. I also modded it by on the back of the pin in front of the tape a rubber band. It silences it and makes it so you don't need tape because it absorbs the shock.
omg! so many people have posted this same gun!
Sorry? I did a bit of looking before I posted it to be sure it wasn't already posted but I didn't see anything like it... Got any links to one like this that were posted before this one was? I guess what I mean by "like this" is either the grip or the trigger (as ghetto as the trigger is :-P )

thats tomboyrme's gun.
and it looks nothing like it so shut it!
To be brutally honest, that doesn't look too much like this one.
whoops! sorry! i thought the date on that one was 2007 not 2008. But still, the guy on that site copied it from somebody from youtube (pretty much a carbon copy).
When I built this, I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised at this thing's power; my yard is 70 feet long and this gun shot clear across it. Awesome, 5 stars! I recommend #64 rubber bands, two of them should be more than enough. I actually used a #64 and... a... smaller one whose number I don't know :D
Also, if you have one, I recommend changing the orange connector on the firing pin to the "receiver" of a ball socket; it's smaller so it'll have a tougher time breaking off. Of course, that's what the tape is for :P
instead of calling it a "reciever" lool, either call it a "ball joint socket" or best yet a balljoint "female" socket.
thanks
=D
