Maybe add some balut as an appetizer, dinuguan as a side dish and baby mice wine to wash it all down.

Good thing I'm vegetarian.
I had a girlfriend way back when that tried to get me to try balut. I almost did, then I decided not to haha.

I go deer hunting. I have no problem shooting and processing a deer, but I do get grossed out eating something that's staring at me. I guess as long as it doesn't look like anything alive when I start cooking it, I don't have a problem... Then again I can cook a pig on a spit... I guess I have to give this recipe a try.

Not very tempting is it :P
Your smiley/frowny faces are hilarious on the sheep though.

Its actually not that bad if you don't think about it. *zombie mode* b r a i n s b r a i n s m u s t h a v e b r a i n s *drool*
It's a cultural thing, I guess. Funny but true, here I freak because of your stew and my wife just freaked not 20 mins ago because I served her a Cornish Hen and it still "looked like a baby animal". ;-)

Yeah. Here in the US we don't realize how our food gets to us. We don't give any thought to how it got in the freezer. Over in Iran you see freezers full of 1/2 lambs, heads, legs, ribs, etc. You think about it a little more. Most of us over here are sissies (no offense) compared to other countries.
Yeah I recently moved to pakistan from the US and got to see bakra eid when they sacrifice all the animals. The streets were filled with blood and animal organs for weeks.
sweet *considering seeing that*
I do realize how the food gets to us.. I've just never been one for cleaning animals or anything. I prefer it prepackaged.. It's just a thing with me that I don't like to eat things I've either known personally and named.. or are looking at me. haha! It was pretty funny how you added the faces to the sheepy picture though.. haha ;x

Yeah, I'm just saying most people haven't watched a sheep die and get chopped up. Agreed. Thanks!
But I know my grandparents in Turkey chop chickhens and cows.I see cow bones all over the place when I go there.
LinuxH4x0r (author)  Derin6 years ago
Ok, most people in the US. Turkey is a whole lot like Iran (we're neighbors!) and we do all that stuff over there. Turkey and Lebanon have the best food in the M.E.
Heh,yes we are. Thanks.

This is cool, way back when I think my grandfather or my great grandfather used to eat Head Cheese, throw scraps,(tendons, bones ect.) and the head and just boil in in water for about a day, then take out the head and whatever big scraps you can grab and let it solidify.

The eyes are uber blue.
i also thought it was disgusting. til i tried it. and then u realize that is just like any other part of the animal, wont lie, the eye is the best part. Tastes like a fish eye
LinuxH4x0r (author)  sadunpererarules6 years ago
Never had the eye. It usually dissolves after a few hour in the slow cooker :P Thanks!

Hah,it was Kurban Bayramı yesterday where they cut sheep and bulld as sacrifice to Allah. It would be the best time to obtain sheep heads.
LinuxH4x0r (author)  Derin6 years ago
We did it on tuesday. We call it eid ghorban or Eid al-adha.
jeff-o6 years ago
That would turn me vegetarian for a month. I like goat, just not that part of one. *shudder*
LinuxH4x0r (author)  jeff-o6 years ago
Haha, actually its not bad if you only see the final product.
canida6 years ago
So... how do you serve it? Looks kind of awesome. I'd certainly try it.
LinuxH4x0r (author)  canida6 years ago
I'll add a picture when I get home. I wanted it in the contest but there was one picture missing. (sorry hope thats OK). You take all the solids out with some of the broth and eat it like soup. I'll show you in detail by the end of the day.
PKM LinuxH4x0r6 years ago
"all the solids"? As in, the meaty bits that fall off the head and all that? I'd be tempted to wrap up the head like a bouquet garni so you just had the stock (after all, soup is made from weirder stuff).
I just mistyped "had" as "head". wt actual f

Apparently pig's head was a popular breakfast dish with the British nobility a few hundred years ago, but I think they went more for a slice of cheek or something than an entire boiled head.

Also, what does the label say in step 1? Other than "HEAD!"?
RSchwark PKM6 years ago
I'm pretty sure thats called head cheese. We boil the meat off the heads add some spices and let it set up. Spread it on crackers or toast and mmhmm! Delicious!
LinuxH4x0r (author)  PKM6 years ago
Read the updates for details. I did this in a hurry to meet the Halloween deadline and it takes so long to cook. Full details now added. It says HEAD the date and I don't remember what else (possibly leg bone).
PKM LinuxH4x0r6 years ago
OK, so the end product doesn't actually look much like dead sheep's head but is actually just a meat soup? That's not at all as freaky. That lame-o cracked.com article completely misrepresented this dish.
LinuxH4x0r (author)  PKM6 years ago
Yeah pretty much. But in the pot it looks disgusting. Brain has the texture of cold butter.
LinuxH4x0r (author)  LinuxH4x0r6 years ago
Actually thats the Iraqi version.
ItsTheHobbs6 years ago
Eeeeeeeeeewe! did you catch that, I made a baaaaaaad joke
LinuxH4x0r (author)  ItsTheHobbs6 years ago
Haha! Its not so baaaaad one you separate it out. Check out the updated final pic. Thanks!

Dude, when you have leftovers, it's left over... Is the eyeball reserved for the honored guest at the table? Why does it have a sheepish grin? Evil.
LinuxH4x0r (author)  caitlinsdad6 years ago
Actually the eyeball gets to gooey and is discarded. Thanks BTW I updated and now have better instructions and a finished product (ate it 20 mins ago)

"Sure to disgust anyone"...other than the Iranians that eat this dish, right? Iran exists beyond the confines of your TV.
