A simple solution for carrying screwdrivers with you on-the-go for whatever needs may arise.

Easy and quick to make, you'll never leave the house without a screwdriver ever again.

Step 1: Materials

You will need:
1 keychain of your choice (ideally your main set of keys)
1 phillips screwdriver bit
1 slotted screwdriver bit
1 handful of shapelock (available at www.shapelock.com) [the "free trial" quantity will suffice]
1 mini-ball chain (optional)

Tools & Additional Materials
1 hole-pocking device (I used Kebab sticks)
1 microwave-safe container

Step 2: Heat Up the Shapelock

Pour a handfull of the shapelock into a microwave-safe container and heat it up for approximately five minutes or until the material is transparent and goo-like. This material will serve as the body and grip of the screws.

Step 3: Molding the Base

Remove a small amount of the material (be careful not to burn yourself) and mold it into a cylinder-like structure with your hands. Gently squeeze one end of the base until it is flat, while making sure the other end remains circular. The size of the screwdriver will depend on your preferences and needs.

Step 4: Inserting the Bit

Insert the phillips bit halfway through.

Step 5: Poking the Keychain Hole

Using the kebab stick or a metal hanger, poke one hole at the opposite end of the base from where the bit is. The farther out you make the poke, the easier it will be to insert a standard key chain ring through the hole.

Step 6: Freezing the Base

Place the screwdriver in a freezer or refrigerator for about 10 minutes so the base can strengthen and turn into plastic (the base will now be white). Don't wait around though, breeze ahead to the next step.

Step 7: Creating the Slotted Screwdriver

Repeat steps 3-6 using the slotted bit instead. You must do this rather quickly in order to be able to keep molding the shapelock.

Step 8: Assembling the Keyscrew Chain

Depending on the thickness of the base, it may be easier to use a mini-ball chain to link the two screwdrivers together, but you don't have to. Insert either the ball chain or the key chain through both holes of the screwdrivers. If you used a ball chain, pass it through the middle of the ring on the key chain and attach the ball chain together at a length you're comfortable and happy with. Add any additional keys you may need.

Step 9: Using Your Keyscrew Chain

How you grip your new screwdrivers will depend on what your comfort preferences are. I recommend following the technique displayed in the image below. Make sure both screwdrivers are opposite each other, gripping the screwdriver you're going to use with your thumb and index finger, then gripping the keys, key chain, and other screwdriver(s) in between your palm and other fingers.

You'll never be caught by surprise again in a screwdriver-demanding situation.
