This table is a good project for someone who has no real power tools and limited hand tools. The only thing I used was a cheap cordless drill, a screw driver, tape measure, and some sand paper. It is a nice looking table when finished.

Step 1: Overview

The table of this instructable is more of a counter than a table, however, modifications are very easy and any size could be built with the same plans. This table is 6 ft long by 28 in. wide and approx 36 in. in height. The top in this example is made with clear white pine 1x4's, you could use 2x4 or 1x6 etc. The Base is 1x6 clear white pine with clear white pine 2x3 legs. (Clear white pine is wood free of knots).

I cut all the wood at home depot then assembled it at home. I have no power tools except a cordless drill which you could do with out.

8- Clear pine 1X4 buy the 6 ft lengths so there's no cutting. Be selective with these, check how straight they are and how nice they look.
1- knotty pine 1X4 buy an 8ft. length and cut into three 24.5" pieces for strapping to hold table top together
2- Clear pine 1X6 buy 6ft. length and cut two at 70"
1- Clear pine 1X6 buy 8ft. length and cut three at 24.75"
2- Clear pine 2X3 buy 6ft. length and cut four at 35"
16- 1/4"X1.5" Lag bolt
40- #10 wood screws 1" long
12- #10 wood screws 2" long

Step 2: Build the Base

This table is built in pieces, which make it easier to move and to build. The first step is to construct the leg assembly.

Start by laying the legs on the ground parallel to each other. Lay the 24.75" 1X6 across the top of legs. When using a big screw such as a lag bolt, I like to pre-drill a 1/8" hole. Double check that the legs are parallel and the 1x6 on top is square and lined up with the legs as shown on the drawing. Mark the holes, and drill through the 1x6 into the legs. Screw in lag bolts(use a washer) and tighten well. check alignment again. make 2 of these assembly's. proceed to next step.

Step 3: Finishing the Base

Take both leg assembly's and stand them up on the side and lay 1X6 across the top. Make sure everything is lined up and square, pre-drill and screw in lag bolts on both sides. Flip the base over and repeat. Once complete stand the table up right. Place the last 1X6 24.75" piece in the center of the table, square it up and make sure it is centered on the base to allow for the top to fit correctly. Predrill and screw.

The base is completed next step is to build the top.

Step 4: The Top

Use the base to lay all the 1x4's out on. Line them all up then lay the 1x4's(cut at 24.5") across and begin screwing. Be careful to get the boards as tight together as you can. Hopefully you were very selective with the boards and they are all dead straight, if not there may be some gaps, try to arrange the boards as best possible. Take your time and make everything tight and square.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Give all the sharp corners a good sanding to create a nice rounded edge. The top needs to be sanded well. I used a foam sanding block. Choose a finish for the top. I used a clear varnish and did many coats to fill in some gaps. I left the legs natural and painted the base white.
