Kite Weaving

Voor dit weefgetouw heb je eerst een aantal onderdelen nodig die hier niet worden besproken*. Deze kun je bijvoorbeeld maken in een Fablab. De benodigdheden bestaan uit: twee houten ronde stokken met 51 gaten, 1 of 2 spoelen*, 1 kam*, 1 schaar, 1 naald en tenminste 1 bolletje wol of katoen.

De bestanden voor het weefgetouw (spoel en kam) zijn vind je hierbij als pdf.

For kite weaving you will need some parts that are not provided in this Instructable*. You could make these at the Fablab or other maker space. What you will need are these: 2 wooden sticks with 51 holes each, 1 or 2 spools*, 1 hedge*, 1 scissors, 1 needle and at least one ball of yarn in a color of your choice.

Step 1: Eerste Draad / First Thread

Knip met de schaar het draad in 51 gelijke stukken van ongeveer 2 meter lang. Pak de naald en doe een draad door het oog, haal daarna de draad door het eerste gaatje van de eerste stok.

Take the scissors and cut the the yarn in 51 equally sized pieces of each about two meters long. Now take the wool needle, and pass the thread through the first hole of the first stick.

Step 2: Verder Vullen / Next Steps

Haal de naald met het draad door de eerste uitgesneden lijn van de kam en daarna door het eerste gaatje van de tweede stok. Maak de draad vast aan de eerste stok. Herhaal dit voor elk gaatje en elke uitgesneden lijn in de kam.

Nadat je de stokken en kam van draad hebt voorzien neem je een nieuw stuk draad en maakt het vast aan de spoel door het er in de lengte aan vast te knopen. Wikkel de rest van het draad nu om de spoel.

Now pass the thread though the first cutted-out line of the heddle. Fix the thread with a knot around the first stick. Then pass it through the first hole of the second stick. Repeat this procedure for every hole and every cutted-out line of the heddle.

After you threaded the whole loom, take some more yarn, secure it around the spool by making a knot around it lengthwise. Now wrap the yarn around the spool.

Step 3: Opzetten Weefgetouw / Setting Up Your Loom

Maak alle draden even lang en maak ze aan één kant vast in een knoop. Maak deze vast aan iets stevigs, op de hoogte van je middel. Neem wat draad, maak het vast aan de andere stok en bind het om je middel.

Maak nu eerst een knoop met je spoel aan de eerste draad van je weefgetouw. Duw de kam naar beneden en haal de spoel door de draden (overlangs/onderlangs). Met de kam haal je de draden naar je toe, zodat ze op één lijn komen te liggen.

Even all threads of the yarn coming out of the loom and make a knot of them. Hook this knot on something stable that is at the same height of your waist. Take some more yarn and tighten it on the two ends of the first wooden stick. fasten the yarn around your waist as if it was a belt.

Start by making a knot with the yarn from the spool on the first thread of the loom. Now push the heddle down and pass the spool in between the threads. At this point take the heddle and bring it towards the wooden stick close to you; in this way you will align the woven threads.

Step 4: Maak Er Iets Moois Van / Enjoy!

Neem de kam en breng deze terug in de oorspronkelijke positie. Trek de kam omhoog en rijg opnieuw de spoel door de draden. Trek daarna de kam opnieuw naar je toe en plaats deze weer terug.

Ga zo door tot je aan de andere kant bent!

Je kan strepen met andere kleuren maken of patronen door te kiezen wanneer je over of onder draden gaat met de spoel. Maak er iets moois van!

Take the heddle again and bring it back where it was, then pull it upwards and pass the spool in between the treads. Again pull the heddle towards yourself and back.

Keep going until you've reached the other end!

You can make stripes of different colors and make patterns by changing under and over which threads you go! Enjoy!
