furniture made out of k'nex has always fascinated me, that's what motivated me to make this chair out of k'nex.

So let's get to business:
Pros:
1: it can hold people up to a 100 kilogram (and maybe even more, but I haven't tried).
2: I think it sits quite comfortable.
3: It looks nice.
4: As you see in the second picture it's got quite normal distance proportions.
5: It's durable because if it breaks you can fix it easily, but you can't with a normal chair.

Cons:
1: Sometimes the connectors on the rear end snap out, it has no consequences though.
2: the back is not incredibly strong, you can't lend back with too much force.

PS: zorry vor bed englisch, i vrom holland.

in this step you'll make the first leg,
it might seem the same as all the other legs but there are a few differences, you'll need to follow all the steps about the legs.

If he could fit in it it might.
Nov 11, 2009. 1:44 PMNYPA says:
It can hold a TON (literally) of weight?
Nov 11, 2009. 2:13 PMKiller~SafeCracker says:
I think it could.
Nov 11, 2009. 2:19 PMNYPA says:
Plastic?
Nov 11, 2009. 2:21 PMKiller~SafeCracker says:
Yes, maybe.
Nov 11, 2009. 6:30 PMNYPA says:
Ok, haven't you had pieces broken by force of the ram? If so, that force is under 100 pounds. Fast moving low force and slow moving big force are two different things. K'NEX will crack under, Hmmmm, about 200 MAYBE 300 pounds. It doesn't matter the structure, it matters the material, in this case.
Nov 13, 2009. 5:57 PMshooby says:
Actually, the structure does matter.  If the pieces form a truss, then forces in each piece will be strictly axial (that's the definition of a truss).  If it is not a truss, then bending will occur.  You're saying that the bending, crushing, buckling, and stretching (tensional)  limits of all k'nex members lies within a 100 pound range, and with a respective maximum difference of 150%?? That makes no sense!

A 10 ft long douglas fir 6x6 column can hold 27,000 pounds without buckling.

A 10 ft long douglas fir 4x6 column can hold 12,000 pounds without buckling.

So that's more than a 100% difference in bearing capacity, with less than a 150% difference in cross sectional area.

Goed geontwerpt, 'k vind het stoel prima, maar het zou wel iets breeder kunnen zijn.  Als het verticale een beetje slap is, moet je het maar iets breed maken.

Nov 11, 2009. 7:17 PMKiller~SafeCracker says:
Okay, after re-looking at it I see that it won't hold 1,972 pounds. And that is because of the leg structure. If they filled in the bottom of the chair and make it "flush" with the ground I can see it happening. Also that chair shown can hold more than 300 pounds. There is no doubt in my mind. I know a little something about structure. I once built an 18-gram balsa wood structure that held 500 pounds.
Nov 12, 2009. 2:07 PMNYPA says:
I meant the K'NEX will break or the connections will fail.
Nov 12, 2009. 2:48 PMKiller~SafeCracker says:
Yes, I under stand. But that depends on the structure design you use.
Oct 27, 2009. 11:30 AMUnit042 says:
My fingertips hurt just looking at that....

My younger brother an I have made a nightstand or two before, but THIS.... Is bordering insanity.... no, wait, if it was designed to be modular, I could not only rearrange furniture, but I could also reBUILD the furniture. Can you say "fouton meets laz-e boy meets kitchen stool meets sofa meets jaqouzy(sic)"? And have an electric motor run the transformations, 'cause I'm lazy....

Wait, a theme song comes to mind...
Transformer furniture, more than meets the, ahem, rear end. Nevermind, bad joke, it only made sense in my head, forget it.

That guy also has quite a lot of time on his hands. Or maybe he works for the knex equivalent of Legoland.
Nov 11, 2009. 1:42 PMKiller~SafeCracker says:
I really don't think so. but who knows??
Oct 27, 2009. 9:23 AMkiffer360 says:
I dunno. There has to be some sort of competition, though.
Oct 18, 2009. 12:35 PMHiyadudez says:
Unfortunatley that is only the Big Ball Factory in the background.
Oct 20, 2009. 7:24 AMHiyadudez says:
Yeah, but the chair is awesome.
Nov 11, 2009. 1:43 PMKiller~SafeCracker says:
Yes, yes it is.
Nov 11, 2009. 1:48 PMHiyadudez says:
I know this is completely off topic and all, but look at the knex ball these guys made!

Nov 21, 2009. 9:01 AMDJ Radio says:
Now all they need is a ball machine.
Nov 21, 2009. 9:16 AMHiyadudez says:
Lol, they would need 100's of thousands of pieces to make a ball machine for that thing.
