Knex Chess Set

This is a simple little chess set that I have come up with. The cool thing about this chess set is that the pieces don't just sit on the squares on the board, they actually clip in to it. Metallic and standard piece colors are needed to make this chess set usable. This could also be used as a checkers set, but everyone knows chess is so much better.

Everything is very easy to modify, especially the pieces. They are pretty basic, and if you build this you may want to improvise, make them larger, more colorful, etc. My brother suggested that I make a giant chess set and model each piece after a significant 'ibler, with Kiteman being the king, of course. That fell through. Anyway...

Step 1 Piece list

For the board, you will need the following pieces.

Rods
Green - 272
White - 114
Red - 16

Connectors
Light Grey - 20
Green - 20
Yellow - 12
Purple - 64
Blue - 80
White - 16

For one set of players (you will need two of different color schemes):

Rods
Green - 44
White - 22

Connectors
Light Grey - 12
Red - 9
Green - 9
Yellow - 9
Purple - 16

Meh... It would take a ton of pieces, if each piece used only say 50 pieces that makes 50x32 players = 1600 pieces for players alone, nevermind the enormous board it would need.

I once build a giant set of Knex chess with squares of 4 reds and like 30 pieces per playing piece (the knights and queens take most) and they all look a bit like the piece they are representing!
I made the black squares have one diagonal grey in it and you can Identify your own pieces by checking if the top rod is red or grey. I demolished it because I didn't know of instructables that time, and I played once with it.
I lost.

Make a checkers set where  you replace the blue connectors on the board for whites and the pieces have white rods coming off that go in the white connectors holes.

The best defence I know is: 1) Move the pawn in front of the queen forward 2 2)Move the pawn in front of the king forward 2 3) Move the left knight so it is 1 square diagonally behind one of the pawns you moved 4) Move the other knight so you have a symmetrical layout This move means that now the bishops can move, the knights can move, the king can move and the queen can move!

I know how.  You move the pawn diagonal of one of your bishops 2 spaces, if the opponent moves the pawn diagonal his King 2 spaces, you move your bishop diagonally so that there is a line straight toward his king.  He is then stuck and no way out.
