I didn't want to buy an expensive commercial coin sorter, so I decided to make this instead! It sorts dimes, pennies, nickels, and quarters into store-bought paper sleeves. It runs using a motor, and the sorting tray on top goes back and forth, sorting the coins according to their size.

You don't have to use paper sleeves to store the coins; you can just have them fall into piles or into something else.

EDIT: This reached 5.00*, thanks to everyone who rated! :-)

Here is a video of the coin sorter in action!

So, if you like it and want to build it, then it's onto Step 1!

Enjoy!

-_- I posted my reply but it didn't show up and now I have to re-post. So... pictures of all the connectors excluding green, and the Y-connector. If you can, of course. I will be very grateful for this because i first saw this almost half a year ago and I'm only just getting around to following through with it. =/
By the way...
this was my second post attempt, copied and pasted because it would not let me reply. it kept saying "please type the 2 words on the page, but it would not do anything when i tried.
Thanks

Hi, I was just wondering if you could post some pictures of the pieces in the list, I don't have all of the necessary pieces so I'm trying to buy them but I'm not sure what you mean by some of them.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you tell me which ones you don't know, I can give you a link so you can find out what they are.

does it hold english coins?
collinjo12 says: Dec 10, 2011. 9:01 AM
I made my coin sorter. As you can see, I used regular paper and wrote the name of the coin that goes in to each holder.
HERE'S MY PICTURE!!

dan1900 says: Sep 11, 2011. 5:15 PM
Hey really cool coin sorter I'm building it and was curious what is the name of the moter you used
Shadowman39 (author) in reply to dan1900Sep 27, 2011. 3:41 PM
The motor doesn't have a name, it's just a motor manufactured by the Knex company.
Snosageman99 says: Sep 26, 2011. 3:07 PM
Does it sort australian coins?
Shadowman39 (author) in reply to Snosageman99Sep 27, 2011. 3:41 PM
No, but you might be able to modify it to sort those.
scottyboy8274 says: Sep 26, 2011. 4:50 PM
I've already started making this but I had to order black hinges from Knex.
Snosageman99 in reply to scottyboy8274Sep 27, 2011. 12:15 AM
Btw...if you get to step 10 "the coin holders" you can mod it so that it doesn't use black connectors...use grey single connectors and put the spacers ona s you go :)

This step was really hard and i didn't really understand it. Can you post better pctures or tell me exactly what each piece is
Shadowman39 (author) in reply to Snosageman99Aug 21, 2011. 11:53 AM
Yeah, this is the hardest part. Unfortunately I don't have better pictures, but what exactly do you need help on?
Snosageman99 in reply to Shadowman39Aug 26, 2011. 4:49 PM
don't worry...I finished it...but for some reason the tray doesn't tip all the way back so the coin doesn't slide anywhere. But still 5 stars
Snosageman99 says: Aug 20, 2011. 8:17 PM
this is epic...im gonna make it right now
