Knex DS Lite\DSi Docking Station With Game Card Holder

UPDATE: 09-03-10: So, Nintendo has brought out the DS lite w\ larger screen and the DSi w\ larger sceen. If anyone of you has one of these, would you please tell me if they are compatible?

Hello fellow friends of knex and gaming. I would like to share you my first knex creation that is not a gun. After all, guns get boring after a while. Instead, I tried to make a dock, like the many Ipod docks I have seen around here. Unfortunatly, I don't have an Ipod, so I made a dock for my DS lite. When I as building, I found out that I had a little space left on the left of the gray rods. I tried to do something with that part, so I made a holder for four game cards. It also has a thingie for holding the adapter cable. Allright, what is there left to say?Just get building and enjoy!

*The regular DS is too large for this dock; the DSi is too small, but can be fitted with some modifications.

**WARNING! The game card holder should only be used with a special casing for game cards. I am not responsible to any damage to your game cards, should you use the holder without cases. If you use the right cases, the game cards are
exactly one connector wide.
***The DS docking station can not be used when a Gameboy Advance cardridge is inserted.

Step 1: Everything You Need.

PS: If you don't have enough pieces, you seriously need to buy more pieces. Everyone can build this.

Allright, so first thing you need to do, make the parts in all the images. You need the part in the second and fifth image twice. Please notice that there is one part on the first three pieces where you don't need to add a green rod. So don't be stubborn and add one, as you will need this part later on.

Step 2: Assembly

First, get your grey rods and the piece with the green connector in it. Connect four grey rods as seen in the first image. Ignore the bottom left grey rod (sorry, can't use the image notes) that is not fully clicked into the connector. On the second picture, ignore everything and look only at the way the first four parts you made are connected. Green connector part, Yellow connector part, Orange connector part, White connector part, Yellow connector part. I'm sorry if this is a bit veage, and i'm also sorry for the way I spell the word vague. Attach the grey rod with the grey connectors on it as seen in the third and fourth picture. Notice that the connectors are facing the wrong way in this picture; the grey connectors must face towards the builder (you). Also notice that the two left connectors are sitting in between the yellow rods. This is normal, but they need to face the other way round just like I stated before. Take the blue rod with the 4 blue connectors on it and place it on top of the white connectors in the game card holder as seen in the fourth and fifth picture. Now, we are almost done, but we need a little bit more. The blue rod with the 3 grey connectors must be attcached like in picture seven. And finally, turn the dock upside down and place some more grey connectors. Do it EXCACTLY as in picture eigth. For improved strength, add three grey connectors to the left of the grey rod, and add a blue rod with a grey connector on the end of that rod. It does not really matter where you put the blue rod.

Ok, so now you need to build... Nothing at all! Just try it out! But before you start putting your DS in here, read the How to use step. Really, it's very important if you don't want to end up with a broken DS and no gamecards.

Step 3: How to Use

First of all, you need a NDS lite or NDSi if you wanna use this dock. A regular DS is too large. If you have a GBA card inserted, remove it before using the docking station. Close your DS and place it in the dock. If you want to listen music or watch a vid while using your DS dock, place your NDS closed first and then open it. If you constructed it right, an optional adapter cable should fit excactly in between the grey conns. Oh, btw, that red thing is not a sharpened red rod, it's the pen I use for my touch screen. Ignore it. If you want to use the game card holder, only use it when you have those small plastic cardridges to put them in (see picture). Otherwise your game card could be damaged.
