Introduction: Knex Halo 2/4 Battle Rifle Replica.

Update 12/16/12: In light of Halo 4's new battle rifle, which has angles and curves this replica doesn't match, I am here to make a note that this was supposed to be based off of halo 2's BR.  Due to a recent comment, I have updated the title as well as add this note to reflect the new game's release.

Behold, possibly the best knex Halo Battle Rifle replica ever made in terms of looks.

Unfortunately, it has a few downsides. The mech doesn't work first of all. I have other things I want to do, I've been working on this for over a month now, and I don't want this project to go to pot because it looks so damn good. So here is what I am going to do:

I will post instructions for the gun "As is". If anyone wants to fix it and make it work, be my guest. You can make it single shot, or mag fed, whatever, as long as it works without butchering the look. If anyone does fix it, they should make a video of it shooting, and send me the raw file over Skype (My skype name is dj_jazzy_jeff1, if you aren't already in my contacts, say that you fixed my BR in the introduction message)

If I like your fix, you will then be a collaborator on this instructable, changing all the steps so they build your version. I will give credit to you for fixing the gun, but I must maintain the majority for making the gun look like it does. You will receive a patch and a subscription if you help me.

In the meantime, I'm touting this as a non-firing model with parts of a mechanism in it. Don't call me hypocritical for asking other people to make their replicas shoot, because believe me, I made the effort. Nobody who I have asked didn't even bothered trying.

NOTE: Building your improved version in metallics is optional.

Here's a video of it:

Step 1: The Front Bit.

This bit holds the bands and whatnot.

1. Make this layer.
2- Layers 2-4 on layer 1.
3- Close up on layer 3.  It's built a bit differently near the front.
4-6: Make the front barrel.  It's a bit tricky, be careful.
7- Connect the barrel to layer 3.
8- Add this little bit.  It makes the assembly sturdier.
9- Make the grip thingy
10- Add it to the rest of the gun
11- Add in another layer 1 and this is what you get.  Move onto the next step.

Step 2: Top Rail.

This is the top rail of the battle rifle.

1- Build 2 of these outer layers.
2- An outer layer with innards.
3- close-up on the rear.
4- Close up on the front innards.
5- finished rail
6- how to connect to the front bit.

Also note there is a setup in the back that is there to make the gun have more realistic angles. I forgot to take pictures of it, so here's a video instead. Skip to 1:25 and watch from there to 1:45 to see how it's made. The video is an old, incomplete version of this gun but it's still the same:

Step 3: Scope.

This connects to the little Yellow connector on the top rail that was sticking out. It's pretty simple. If someone can make a better one by all means do so.

Step 4: Stock.

Here's the most complex part of the gun- The stock.

1- Make 2 of what's pictured.
2- filler stuff.
3- close-up on trigger
4- The angled bit on the stock
5- The final thing.

Step 5: Trigger.

Here's a few pics of the trigger.  Please leave the orange connector disconnected on one side as you will have to actually put it THROUGH the gun.  This should be put onto the gun before the handle.

1- The front of the trigger
2- The back.  Please leave the orange connector disconnected on one side.
3- How the trigger actually stops the ratchet from turning.  Note the use of spacers.
4- Picture 3 with the rod removed
5- the top rail off so you can see it's a double-ratchet.

Step 6: Handle.

This is a custom angled handle, not 45 degrees like most guns, and not straight out 90 degrees either.

1- The bit the handle connects to (Includes trigger guard)
2- the handle itself.
3- Combine.
4- Connect to gun.

Video of me constructing the handle:

Step 7: Mag

This mag is held in by friction.  There is a difference between top and bottom.  It won't fit in upside-down.

1- The mag
2- one side removed.

Have fun showing off your new knex Halo Battle Rifle!

Step 8: Knexsuperbulderfreak's Version (Firing).

This is my version i took all these pictures to help others make it.  Although the rail is a bit too short but other than that it's fine.

IMO, it looks like the halo reach DMR  now, minus a few details on the barrel.  -DJ

I think you could make the instructions more detailed. If you don't know what I mean, then go to Seleziona's channel on this website and look at a few of his instructables. They are very detailed and easy to understand.

Back in the days of Halo 3, this looked ok. But it looks a lot like the new BR from Halo 4, so nice job planning ahead :P

I have updated the title to reflect this.

the stock looks a bit to big but overall 5*

Never ealised how great it is. I've made it, it's awesome!

Nice job! It looks really realistic!

I love halo guns, and this is a perfect knex version of a battle rifle. I would love to build a knex DMR, as it is my favorite halo weapon next to the spiker.

WIth enough mods this could become a DMR. Honestly though I liked the BR better than the DMR. BR spread was better than the bloom the DMR has.

What sort of range did the firing version of this gun get?
