Knex Pistol, with a NEW! firing mechanism, a Hammer

This is my new knex pistol it uses a new, pretty efficient firing mechanism. I guess you call it a hammer you pull the hammer back which rotates back, it locks into place in four different distance and when your ready to fire, pull the trigger. With only two rubberbands i was able to fire it 30+ ft on a stright angle with good power. (Not aiming 45 degrees up in the sky) its a single shot so you have to keep reloading :( It has a true trigger as well. It uses very few pieces (about 100 and something).

Awesome. The hammer hits the outside of the barrel. I ran out of pieces but i improvised and ended up with a carbine xD.
after about 5 shots though, the hammer got stuck to the end of the barrel and jammed.

I have some improvements. If you add a grey connector to the end of the trigger, you can hold the gun more comfortably. Also, instead of a grey cut off connector, use a black ball joint socket connector. Then, just use a red rod to lock the ammo into place. Improves range of motion b/c the ammo wont fall out. Hope this helps.

I have built this gun and I'm sorry to say but it was very disappointing. For one the power was awful it shot with 2 elastic bands at most 10 feet not the 30ft he said. For another it was far to big. I made it in the hope it would fit in my pocket... No chance, it is far bigger than the gun he was trying to recreate. The handle was uncomfortable and the trigger often didn't work!

I KNOW a very simple but usefull way to make it much more powerful. All you do is take two orange rail bits like the one used on the tip of the gun where you lace the rubber bands and put them in the middle area of the gun where the two black short rods stick out from the black snowflake connectors. Put them to where one of the ends of the the orange connectors is touching the trigger mechanism's axel point. This will keep the blue rod that holds the trigger from moving out of place when too many rubber bands are applied. (Trust me, I got a much more powerful gun by doing this)

I've built it, and it looks even cooler in real life. (And, actually, rather authentic). I had no trouble recreating it from your instructions, but building the barrel was a bear. I had to take it apart a couple times and rebuild it... -_- Also, it didn't shoot very far for me, even tho I was using two rubber bands. (and a blue rod) My Biggest beef with it, though, is that you have to mutilate a knex piece to make this. I'm not real fond of knex models that require you to do that. o_0 Your instructable is so cool (and the sensation of cocking the hammer back so authentic feeling) that it makes up for it.

Your instructions are horrible on this step. I got through all the other steps and now I am going to have to take it apart because I didn't understand two things. 1. When you pull back he hammer do you have to hold it back because it doesn't stay back which means the trigger does nothing. 2. Where is the decapitaded grey peice? In the entire barrel where you actually put the bullet there is no grey peice. It is a good gun but it pisses me off that I made this and have to take it apart after two hours of haveing to go through all the pics becaused none of them are half way good.

I will answer all of these. Also the instructions are fine. 1. Attach an elastic band to the trigger so it is pulling the trigger towards the front of the barrel, that way it acts like a ratchet system, and it works perfectly. 2. The decapitated grey piece is right at the back end of the barrel, you place the ammo for best results so that it is half way poking into the decapitated grey connector, note that I found red rods work the best. I found these instructions to be of good quality and built the gun to 100% completion and it worked fine

great gun man, shoots blues the best, but you have to load from the back of the gun after you have cocked the hammer. otherwise the blue rod gets stuck halfway down when you try to load :)

it may the rubber band or the rubber band placement try a number 64 rubber band and loop it behind the hammer (fold the rubberband) don't just stretch it across). from the hammer loop it on to the set of half-moon connectors where the first gap is that should shouls pull the band tight enough to shoot around 25-30 feet

The decapitated grey connector is on the back of the barrel the last piece connected to the red/green rod right by where the hammer is. To cock it you pull the hammer back it rotates back it doesn't pull back like every other gun you rotate the hammer backwards and downwards you should here a few clicks and when you can't rotate any further it's cocked. I hope this helped. Look at step five closely as well you'll be able to see the decapitated piece

extreme builder thats an orange connector in the color brown that runs up from one long red/green rod up to the other one where the orange piece, I think you're referring to, connects to. other than that piece if that's not what you meant there are blue and silver spacers behind that. And I don't know what you mean by "pic 4 the second piece on the bottom," the last picture on step 1 or what?

on an un-un-related matter this gun is graet i love the firing method remionds of pirates of the carribean its so much easier to cock thatn a slide action gun unless you got a elastic sock band 2 red rubbers and 2 normal rubbers like i do i can shoot it roughly 15-30 metres (about 40-50ft i think)(i'm ozzy so i dont know feet to well.

Pretty cool I made this and it works nicely. I'm working on a new type of knex gun, a chain gun. you know how those knex roller coaster kits come with chains for the cars? I'm gonna make an instructable that shows you how to create a machine chain gun that uses a motor to make the chain fire rods. Hopefully it will fire more than 100 bullets per minute.

i love it i got like 5 rubber bands double stretched it goes like 100ft+ but it takes 30secs to pull back the hammer because of all of the tension!

wow. i made this gun, and it fires pretty good. the only thing wrong is that when the hammer htis the barrel, it snaps pretty loud. it would give away your position in a knex war, but overall great gun. +1

nice! now to make a cylinder that holds at least 6 bullets and make the trigger pull the hammer back and unleash it at a certain weight or pull back and then it will be the first true revolver that ive seen

the bullet technically doesn't stick out at all the bullet is pushed to the back of the gun on the very edge of the decapitated grey connector the bullet should not be passed that if it is the hammer will get stuck on it and it won't fire or like you said only 5 ft i hope this helps

yes, there are three white rods and only one green peg the peg is there in order to have to layers but not interfere with the trigger guard and yes, that is a tan clip not the blue thing

also, on the trigger, , it makes like an "L" right?does that "L" consist of 2 layers? and if so, are those 2 layers made up of 2 greens and 2 whites, or 3 whites and 1 green...u might not understand what im syaing >.< oo! trigger section: 2nd pictures, it has a whtie peg, then a green peg...is it like that on the other side of the red connector?

i just built this and i love it! i modded mine with an extra piece on the hammer for faster cocking and a longer trigger for my smaller hands, i used 1 decent rubberband and the thing shattered a cd!
