For Christmas I received a 12 pack of caffeine free Coke, shortly afterwords (December 27th at approximately 11:35 A.M) I saw that the weekly challenge was K'nex. I was able to put two a two together (that's five by the way) and decided to make a K'nex soda rack. This soda rack os based off wine racks (because those had a simplistic design easily doable with K'nex). Technically this is more of a proof of concept as I did not have enough pieces to make this the size I want (but that's ok because five minutes from now I won't have enough soda to warrant the size that I wanted).

Step 2: Piece Count

I believe the piece count to be a very important thing that is left out of FAR TO MANY Instructable's. Seeing as to how my views are as such and that I don't want to look like a hypocrite here is my piece count.

For a Soda rack capable of holding three cans of soda (check the picture) you will need:

Rod's:
Yellow (x.2)
Blue (x.28)

Conector's:
Blue (almost full circle) (x.8)
Purple (half circle, they look like the yellow half circle pieces) (x.24)

Step 3: Lets Start Building

The frame work for this is very simple and could be extended or shortened (O.K it really can't get much smaller without falling over, but still...) quite easily. This is built out of two halves which are connected with blue rods, you could quite easily add a third section for increased stability however that is not necessary as soda cans (generally?) are not that long.

You need to make two of these (the picture). The best explanation I can offer is the picture However I will do my best to explain in words.

You need to create squares out of blue rods leaving one corner open. Now that you have three squares made you can connect all three squares to the same joint (a combination of the blue circle and the purple half circle) this adds stability compare to making full squares and using green rods to connect them. Another benefit is it takes up less pieces and space.

Step 4: Now Hat You Have Two Halve's Let's Assemble Them.

In the last step you made two of the object pictured in picture one, right (If you would please excuse the image notes they get saved into the picture)? If you did then you should have a total of eight remaining blue rods which you should now snap into place of the joints of one of the sides like in picture two).

It is fairly obvious what to do next however allow me to explain for those of you who are not jumping ahead... You load it with soda!!! Not really you actually the two halves together like in picture three (take the side that you have not put the blue rods on and attach the other ends of the blue rods to the joints on it (just look at the picture!)).

Congratulations if you have something that looks remotely like picture three then you can load it with soda (This should be self explanatory but if it is not to you look at picture four).
