not particularly usefull, but extremely fun, and awesome. But dangerous.

Step 1: Make the blade connection

follow the picture to make the 'blade' part of the saw which connects the the body and the drill (you will need a drill for this).

use a gear istead of rods, youll get a cleaner cut

I have made a new, solid, more circular blade, that cuts cleaner. Also gears would be too small I think.

Well, that is impressive, but you could make the 'blades' spin a hell of alot faster and make it even more dangerous. and make it better at cutting paper too, by changing the ends of the blades as thay might not be very sturdy or safe. :)

I made a new 'blade', that is more solid and more like an actual blade

Oh, we need to see this in action!

Dang, that's a complicated way to rip paper ;-)

It's not complicated ripping, it overkill shredding!

When I was little I took a motor out of one of those foam disc shooters, which spin VERY fast, and glued razor blades to it and mounted it in a box so the blades poked through a slit in the top. I even stuck a vacuum hose in the side of the box for "dust removal". It would cut through plastic. Looking back, it seems a bit dangerous :)

Personally I think you could have made this less of a skeleton and used a motor.

With the Christmas holidays approaching, I will probably have more time to work on a V2, which will hopefully feature a stronger, sturdier body and 'blades'.

A K'nex motor? I think the only way to get the 'blades' spinning that fast and that powerful would to be to use a drill.

Nice, but I feel like that is a bit...skeleton-y. You should beef it up a bit or something.
Marmaduke the hamster (author) in reply to apples!!!!!Dec 10, 2011. 12:19 PM
Yeah probably, however I have a limited supply of K'nex and time :/

Fair enough. The only reason I say this is because the connections to the spinning piece to the 'blades' are so minimal that it could potentially be reaaally dangerous.
