Knit a Tulip for Me is not my organisation..... but the pattern is mine. Their aims are outlined below:

Our aim:
- Raise awareness of ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the charity, the Association for Young People with ME
- Knit/crochet 25,000 tulips – to be displayed as a floral petition to Parliament June 2015
- Raise £25,000 for the Association for Young People with ME
- Give ME/CFS sufferers a voice

Step 1: How to Knit a Tulip

You will need:

Green DK yarn for the stem
Red DK yarn for the petals (or any other colour...)
Needle to sew up
4mm Knitting Needles - I like to use double pointed ones.

These are simple.

Inner petals – make 2

Cast on 2.

K1front and back on both stitches (4 stitches)

K1, K1front and back, K1front and back, k1 (6 stitches)

K2, K1front and back, K1front and back, k2 (8 stitches)

K2tog over whole row

K2 tog, cut yarn, thread and pull to tighten.

Outer petals – make 2, leave both on the needle

Cast on 3

K1f and k1back, k1, K1f and k1back

K2 tog over whole row

P2 tog over whole row (3 stitches remain)

With both petals on the needle, push together and knit the 6 stitches as one row.

This now becomes the stem part.

Change to green

Cast off.

Sew inner petals together at the bottom (the cast off bit) leaving the tops open like petals.

Place inside outer petals with stem. Stitch in. Sew up outer petals to half way up e petal securing the inner petals inside.

Stitch up the side of the stem.

OPTIONAL

Sew on a pin back. - if you want to make it into a brooch.
