If you don't want to use dozens of yarns at once , it's worth tweaking your image to reduce the number of colours in it. I started with the Robot image from this topic, and used Photoshop to add extra space around it, and cut down the number of shades in the image.
Uploading the image to Pics To Knits was actually quicker and easier than uploading an image here.

I'm not sure when I'll be using picstoknits in the near future, because I mostly like knitting shape and texture with one colour (maybe that's a future project for your coding skills?), but I have been telling all my knitting friends about it.
But, remember how we mentioned illusion knitting? Have a look at this scarf I made and Kitehusband posted for me. I bet you could do that on your website as well!
