Introduction: Knitted Spiral Hat

Fall is here! Time for hats!

I love hats and with the change of weather comes an excuse to make more hats. Here is the one of my patterns that I have came up with. This is the second iteration of this pattern that you can make with basic knowledge of knitting

This is a really simple and fun pattern great for guys or girls. At the end of this instructable I will put the full pattern in a downloadable PDF for any of you who want to make it.

Step 1: Materail

needed skills:

cast on

knitting in the round with double pointed needles,

knit stitch

pearl stitch

knit decrease

pearl decrease.

needed materials:

70 grams of worsted weight yarn

(5) 3.75mm, 7 in double pointed needles

scissors

3.75mm or 3.50mm crochet hook

yarn needle

stitch markers

Step 2: Cast on

Cast on 83 stitches to four double pointed needles.

21 on the first needle, 21 on the second needle, 21 on the third needle, and 20 on the fourth needle.

Cut off the excess tail that is left from casting on and you're ready to knit!

Step 3: Knit the Sides of the Hat

Simply put this hat is knitted by changing stitches every 6 stitches. Because there are 83 stitches in this hat the last set of stitches at the end of round one has 5 purl stitches. The sixth purl stitch for this stripe is the first stitch in round two. This shifts everything over by one with every round. Every 12 rounds the rounds repeat. So round 13,26 and 39 are repeats of round 1.

k = knit, p = purl

round 1: k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p5.

round 2: p1, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p6, k6, p4.

Put a stitch marker in between the last stitch of the 12th round and the first stitch of the 13th round.

Repeat this four times.

Step 4: Decrease

Simply put you just continue the same pattern of stitch changes and decrease in those spirals

k=knit, kd= knit decrease, p=purl, pd=purl decrease
