I will show you how I replaced the knife with a key in my Leatherman Skeletool step by step. This was surprisingly easy!
I also welcome you to watch the youtube video of the build, just click the thumbnail above!
Step 1: SELECT THE LEATHERMAN AND KEY
I chose the Skeletool because of the simplicity of the design. As you can see by the pics in this step I simply unscrewed the star head closest to the knife, popped the knife out, and traced the top of the knife onto the key. Make sure you choose a key with a large head to work with. ALSO make sure to align the knife and key together properly so that the key fits right when you assemble it.
Step 2: CUT, FILE, and ASSEMBLE THE KEY
I cut just a little outside the line that I traced on my bandsaw.
I then filed and filed until I got the same shape on the key head as the knife head.
And then the star head went back on with zero problems. It fit perfectly so that you even hear the little click noise when you open and close the key.
