LED Burlesque Pasties!

This instructable will teach you how to make pasties with LED nipples. Obviously this is information you need to succeed in life!

First of all, thank you to clamoring for the original instructable! I followed her instructions to form the pasties, but made a few adjustments to add the LEDs. :D

The pasties are so simple to make that I figured it would be nice to add something else - hence the LED "nipples."

These are the first pair I've made and while they're not the greatest (sloppy sewing FTW!), I'm hoping you guys will help me improve them!

P.S. - You might not want to look any further if you're easily offended, scared of breasts and/or women, or at work. Just so we're clear. :D

Step 1 Ingredients!

You will need:

• craft foam (preferably black)
• your choice of fancy fabric
• craft glue (I used aleene's tacky glue)
• thread to match fabric
• needles
• an x-acto knife
• 5mm LEDs
• two 2025 lithium batteries
• patience and nipples!

Unlike the original project, grommets are not necessary. :D

I have no need for pasties, but how could I resist clicking on this one...lol My only question, because I'm not well versed in matter of this sort, If a woman is wearing pasties, are led's required to attract attention?...lol Great job, I'll be back to reread should the need present it self!

Depends on how geeky the person they're trying to impress is, I guess? Because, you know, sometimes you need to be wearing electronics, or cat ears, or a schoolgirl outfit to distract that certain nerdy someone from their internet addiction. :P I bet it'd work!

If you were aiming at the geeks, I'm surprised you didn't use blue LEDs. Throw a gob of geeks into a room full or blinking LEDs and they all seem to congregate around the blue ones.

I'm working on a pastie design myself, and I think the best way to adhere them will be double sided carpet tape... you can get it by the roll at home depot and I've found it to be the easiest way to keep costume pieces on skin. It can be a bit painful to remove though, so be careful! :)

I love them, not sure if the wife would wear them. Great for a Techno Club! There are much smaller surface mount LEDs out there. A little harder to find and to work with but would lessen the chance of being stuck (ouch) and the need for the center hole and the wires would be smaller. They won't be as bright but good for close up. Several can be lined up for patterns. Some old computer boards like modems, NIC cards and hard drives sometimes have them so if you have techno geek salvager friends they might be able to find free or cheap ones. PS. Looks like a shoulder blade.

Ok....here's a few tricks from a stagehand and a costumer builder: To greatly reduce the thickness, you could use a very thick sheet of paper, like bristol board for the outer pastie. Use a glue stick to prevent warping of the paper. Instead of overlapping and gluing, butt the cut edges together and join from underneath with a thinner piece of paper. Since holding small bits of paper still to dry is damn near impossible, its easier to glue one side, let it dry and then move the other into place. Also, there are acrylic sheets that can be purchased at the craft stores that could be used in the same fashion and have similar thickness. A stronger glue maybe needed. E600 is good but smelly. I know its seems like not sewing the edges would be a bad idea, but if you are gluing it down and then adding a felt, there's not much chance for fabric to fray. If using finer, thinner fabrics, use a liquid called Fraycheck. It will seal the edges of any fabric. This can be bought at any fabric store in the notions section. The felt backing will be great to use. Just make sure its polyester and not wool. Also, any sturdy satin with fraychecked edges, or even a strech(knit) fabric that doesn't fray would work nicely. As for attachment, hairpiece tape is magical stuff. I know how silly, but the stuff is made to keep meshy, shifty wigs stuck to greasy, sweaty foreheads. Breasts are much nicer places. In theatre, we use it to do quick changes between a bearded character to clean shaved ones. It aides in keeping dresses in place, bindis on foreheads, and leather masks suspended on actors faces. This can be purchased in precut strips or in rolls at a hair supply store. A good brand is topstick. I usually cut the strips into even smaller pieces to fit. It really doesn't take much. Test it. Hope this helps!

Okay I'm picturing you walking into Hobby Lobby wearing these black flashers with red lights under a white t-shirt and asking the little old lady at the help desk for the 'pasties department.' LOL! Jeannie Marie did have some good tips, so to speak. Instead of sewing I have used Aleene's "OK To Wash-It" permanent fabric glue to make wallets from denim and Tyvek. It works very well and remains flexible. I think Aleen's makes the 'fraycheck' glue also. Jeannie Marie had a typo in her post. It is E-6000 glue, not E-600. They also make E-6001. One is runny and the other one stays in place. Be sure you get the one you want if you use that.

I find that the best adhesive for pasties is actually waterproof eyelash glue. WAY less painful to remove than spirit gum!! ;) I totally want to try these out! They're hilarious!! Thanks for this one!!

To All that WANT to know, take it from a retired professional. The best glue for pasties to stick to you body is elmers gluestick (actually any brand of kids gluestick will do). Sticks great and doesn't rip your skin off, but will still sting a little (but some people like that). Just glue up the inside edges of the pasties and stick on. Gluestick will not always hold up well in water, incase anyone is planning to wear pasties in the shower or pool. Love the Kittie porn LOL, it always feels good to laugh out loud first thing in the morning. Of course my husband wants to do it to our cats now.

Well I feel like a right pillock! :) I never knew that these "nipple armour" things were actually called pasties. Where I am from pasties are a form of delicious meat filled pastry... Well brings new meaning to the children's rhyme "Simple Simon met a Pie-man..." ;)
