I built a few cool projects I found on Instructables.com and now it's time for me to contribute.  This is a LED chandelier that I made using Christmas LED string lights.  It not difficult to make but it takes patience.  I think it's totally worth it and the end product looks awesome!  It's also a great energy saver: only uses 3 watts.

Nice, but i gotta know.. you seem to have no transformer or resistor etc.. I'm thinking as i sit here with a light socket adaptor and some Xmas lights with a transformer/controller on it... did yours have an adaptor? or are they mains voltage LED's? or do they just work?
Magic?
any insight appreciated!

Yes the LED string light I used does have 2 transformer built-in. If you goto step 5 and click on the 3rd picture, you will see two transformers (size of your thumb) already built-in with the LED string light. When you cut off the plug, make sure to leave the transformer along.

Ah ha.. nice one cheers!

Sorry for the typo "along", I meant "alone". Leave the transformer alone.

How could one make this brighter? Is there high power christmas LED lights?
kaway27 (author) in reply to jedillwagDec 15, 2011. 12:55 PM
I know there are 3-watt LED that use in high-end LED flashlight but those are expensive. I have never heard of a high power chistmas LED lights.

Beautiful! A couple of years ago, I made a lamp using a solar powered LED string - it was an art project, so it was not done to maximize the light. Now you've given me a GREAT idea for a light in our RV!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
kaway27 (author) in reply to DasBusDec 13, 2011. 5:42 AM
The LED string only uses 3 watts. You can totally make it solar powered. Good idea. I would like to see yours when your done.

Is it safe to only hook up one of the wires to the house power? Shouldn't it have a second wire or a ground hooked up? Can someone explain the wiring logic?

This is a great instructible. I hadn't thought about using a flush mount light like that, the flange plate has enough room in it for the backs of the lights. Working on a panel LED light with xmas lights but it will just be plugged into an outlet.

I think you might had confused about the wiring instruction. The LED light string has two ends. One end is a male plug and the other end is a female plug that is use when connecting a series of light strings together. The male plug has its own two wires (no ground). The wires have no polarity which means you can connect either wires to positive or negative. I hope that helps you.

Ah. Maybe update the instruction? It wasn't quite clear. So just one to red and one to black as normal, no ground. That makes much more sense. :-)

I revised the instruction and now should be more clear.

This is just too awesome. I too have a used and working LED Sting Light, and an LED Flexible Tube light. This is just the perfect method to utilize it.
Also i have another suggestion. you get vegetable Stainers that are pan shaped and have holes drilled in them to strain water, i was thinking even that could be used, as they to are in a circular fashion, and also might coz a Petal Pattern.
Anyways, this is definitely worth a try. Will post the pictures here once i am done with it.

It might make this project easier if you can find a nice strainer. I would like to see yours when you are done.

I really love this. Would there be an environmental plus in reduced wattage over, say, incandescent or the compact fluorescent?
fuzzyguy in reply to skeptikoolDec 11, 2011. 12:30 PM
Most of the LED light strings like this use 2 to 3 watts so there is a power savings. But as he mentioned the light output is somewhat lower than an incadesent fixture.
kaway27 (author) in reply to fuzzyguyDec 11, 2011. 8:11 PM
You are exactly right. I measured the wattage of the LED light string that I used for this LED chandelier and it's 3 watts.

This looks great! I'm thinking of ways I could incorporate the idea into a more traditionally styled chandelier.
kaway27 (author) in reply to canidaDec 11, 2011. 10:16 AM
That would be nice. I would like to see that too.

I really like this. It would be cool to make a hanging version.

Thanks, I will think about a hanging version.

I love this! Especially the addition of the lights shining out the sides along the ceiling!

I glad you love it. My wife love it too. I made for her as one of her Christmas gift.
