An easy project the whole family can take part in! Besides, with Valentine's just around the corner, what better way to surprise your loved one?

You will need these items:

One (1) Sock
Two (2) LEDs per puppet, or more, depending on your style
Two (2) watch batteries (One for each LED)
Electrical Tape
Yarn or other accessories for decoration
Hand

Step 1: Sock It to Me

Put the sock on your hand. Test it out a bit. Make sure the thing has likeability and potential to be all that a sock puppet can be.

Grab your LEDs. Locate where you want your eyes to be and poke the LEDs through the sock. Make sure you poke them through the spaces between your fingers, and not into your fingers! Finally, turn you sock inside out, revealing the guts of the sock! (Plus the LED leads)

Step 2: Hook It Up

Grab your watch batteries and electrical tape! Test the connection to see which way lights up the LED (Hint: The longer lead goes on the top of the battery).

Tape one lead onto the battery and wrap the tape around to the other side. You should make the setup so when you press the other lead down, the LED lights up. You can change this however you like. You can use button or DIP switches, but this way allows for no soldering so that anyone can make this puppet easily and safely.

Step 3: Fin

Flip your sock back so the LEDs are facing out. Put your hand in and test your LEDs. My sock works very well, as the batteries fit in between my fingers. I can just squeeze the batteries and the lights brighten up!

But don't stop there! Add decorations to your puppet! Hair, goatees, gaping mouths with sharp, pointy teeth.... whatever your imagination comes up with! You can use red LEDs to make your puppet look angry, too.

The way I did this Instructable allows the eyes to be operated separately from each other, but you can power both LEDs from the same battery.
