LED side markers

LED side markers
Turn you existing car molding into useable space to put in some LED side markers for extra safety and a neat spy look. Also less work than an instal of  OEM side markers, as you don`t have to cut a hole in the fender.

Using the old data cable plug as a template to solder your leds on makes for presice measurment accuracy when drilling out holes later on. Also helps to make for a neater looking pod.

resistor should vary with the leds used. make sure to OVER protect, as the 12V from your car can EASILY surpass 15 actual volts. Alternately, wire a 5V lighter-socket adapter inline, and adjust the resistor to match the new voltage supply.

You didn't say explicitly, but I presume this is a parallel wiring of the leds?
otherwise, they would need to be wired in a 3Sx2P arrangement to ensure high enough voltage.

Final note... probably best to use red/yellow/amber leds. any other colors MAY get you some trouble from overzealous law enforcement. Couldn't find Illinois right off hand, but Washington state... http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.100
Federal regulations on the matter defer to state law, I believe... so no help there.
