Return to Previous Lesson: Lamp Post and Transmission Pole - 3D

Lesson Overview:

Now we'll print our 3D design!

Step 1: Wire Up a Lamp Post

After you finish printing the lamp post, you are ready to wire it up and add it to the City of Lights model.

You will need the following materials:

- 2 jumper wires that are still connected to each other (sockets and pins at opposite ends).

- A dome LED

- A Circuit Scribe 2-pin module.

Expand the step image to see the completed lamp post in more detail. Then follow the instructions below!

  1. Lock the socket ends of the jump wires into one branch of the "T" shaped lamp post.
  2. Guide the jump wires down the post and through the long notch at the base.
  3. Slide the base onto a 2-pin module and plug the jumper pins into it. Each wire should be connected to a different foot on the 2-pin module.
  4. Plug an LED into the sockets.
  5. Finally, snap on the lamp shade to cover the LED!
  6. Watch the "Lamp Post" and "Pressure Sensitive Road" video tutorials to learn how to use the lamp post in a circuit!
  7. Move on to the next step.

Step 2: Wire Up the Transmission Lines

The base of the lamp post can also be used as a transmission pole which supports wires that carry electricity across the city.

You will need the following materials:

- 2 long insulated wires with tinned ends

- A Circuit Scribe 2-pin module.

When you are finished with the instructions below, watch the "Transmission Line" tutorial video to learn how to include the transmission lines in a circuit!

  1. Slide one wire through a hole on both sides of the "T" shaped transmission post.
  2. Guide the jump wires down the post and through the long notch at the base. You might need to use a strip of tape to hold the wires in.
  3. Slide the base onto a 2-pin module and plug the jumper pins into it. Each wire should be connected to a different foot on the 2-pin module.
  4. Watch the "Transmission Line" tutorial video!

In the next lesson you will learn to add a traffic light!
