Here's an instructable for making the simplest and most painfully obvious laptop stand. Chances are, if you drink anything, you have the makings for this right now... maybe scattered on the floor around you.

Step 1: Source your materials

As with all projects, a good source for your materials is key. I recommend a type that you can find readily available: soda, water, or like I used - soda water.

I do this also but put the bottle caps on a string so that they are prepositioned to fit where the feet of the laptop sit.

oh my gosh. I do this too. I was going to put this on instructables but I figured no one wanted to see it. I guess I was wrong.

I'll be honest with you... This was my test of the format for publishing instructables. I wanted to test the waters with something silly before I put up my more complex projects.

Hey, that a g4 cube in the background! I've always wanted to upgrade one of those...

Actually it's the shell of a Cube. I worked at an Apple Service shop and after replacing one in the field, I thought we had to send the damaged piece back to Apple. When they told me it's a disposable part (shame on you, Apple) I said, "like HELL!" and was sizing tissue boxes in the supermarket on my way home. Later I added a card reader. I have a slot-loading dvd drive I'm going to squeeze into it as well. Forgive the blatant plug, but many of my hacking projects are here http://www.macpowercorp.com/inventions/
I'm sticking an iMacDV in a briefcase and I should start a thread on Apple Pro Speaker hacks. Apple spends so much time on industrial design that it's a shame to throw those products away.
