Laptop Stands

Anyone who uses a laptop all day long knows the value of a laptop stand. They're comfortable, they keep your computer running cool, they bring your screen to the proper height and angle, and they free up that oh so precious desktop real estate. Sure you can buy one, but you're a living, breathing, thinking human complete with opposable thumbs - you can make one of the custom laptop stands in this guide yourself!

im thinking of using a binder (the 3 inch thick ones), and drilling a hole under the fan for ventelation

I actually do use a binder at work for raising my laptop. There isn't any need for holes if you flip it around and rest the feet of the laptop on the binder spine, as it leaves a big gap.

Im thinking about using a 2.5 inch binder, creating a chamber in the back by adding a "wall" towards the back, and in the wall will be a peltier unit with heatsinks on either side where one heatsink is behind the so called wall with its hot air being blown out of the binder, the other heatsink is having cool air blown directly into my laptops intake by cutting a hole in the binder. mmm i smell a good instructable cooking

i actually have the electrical part of the plan rigged up on my desk at the moment. It cost about 21 dollars and 40 minutes to make and all i need to make it truly worthwhile is more power, but i will say 3 bucks for an 8.5 volt 5.7 amp adapter is beautiful and gets the heatsinks fairly uhh... different in heat...

I don't see the reason for laptop stands. You can just put something under the back of your laptop and its free. I normally use some LEGO bricks, my DS, a rock, books, TV remotes or anything else that is lying around and it seems to do fine.

you put A ROCK underneath your laptop?

polonium9, I meant that as a joke. Sorry. But it should work for any laptop. I don't MAC's have special stands unless they are powered like with fans and such. Then it would likely be USB powered and still work with the MAC, providing you have a free USB port.
Jan 2, 2009. 10:39 AMed_130 says:
No, you'll have to get the special Mac version. :)

I mad one for my laptop. I used one of those big A4 ring binders, an old computer fan and some balsa wood to reinforce the ringbinder a bit and to make some 'stops' in case the laptop should slide down a bit. Pros: it works and cost me nothing Cons: looks extremely gehto

I'd like a laptop stand with a fan in ti to keep the laptop cool... i find that certain laptops (including mine) get extremely hot in the summer months and are barely useable.

a watercooling stand would be even better
