Laser Cut Wooden Phone Stand

This is a wooden phone stand made with 1/8 inch wood, using the living hinge technique to make wood flexible. It is perfect for watching movies or shows or videos in the landscape orientation, but cannot support a phone in portrait.

It was made to be the same size as a credit card or gift card, and fits in a wallet very well.

It has two different viewing angles as the stand can be used in two orientations.

Step 1: Laser Cutting Setup

First, download the .dxf file of the stand.

Then, using the laser cutting program of your choice, such as CorelDRAW, import the file.

Add two rectangles about an 1/8 inch from both edges and about an 1/8 inch thick and color them separately from the lines. Make sure they extend to at least the edge of the stand, or else they do not work.

On CorelDRAW, the strength of the laser was always 100%. For the lines the speed was 2% and for the notches the speed was 15%.

For the notches the speed could be increased to 25% or 30%, as it took very long to cut them out at 15% and they do not need to be as deep as they are.

Step 2: Laser Cut

Using 1/8 inch wood, laser cut the phone stand out.

At 15% speed for the notches, it took over 10 minutes to finish just them, so I would advise against using a speed like that.

Step 3: Enjoy Your Stand!

To use the stand, hold it with the notches up, fold one side over the other, and fold the T into the slot.

For iPhones it has proved to work very well, but for phones with beveled edges there may be some slipping. The notches are there to prevent that.
