Picture of Learn How to Play Poker!
Since I'm amazed that a lot of people don't know how to play poker, though I've played since I was like, 10, I figured I'd help y'all learn how to play so you can go to casinos and lose your money. Sounds good, eh? Alright, I'm going to teach you how to play: 5 Card Draw, 5 Card Stud, Texas Hold 'Em, and Blackjack, which some people consider a kind of poker.

Note: I wouldn't try to cheat anyone out of money at betting games like these, they can get mad. Very mad. Don't try it, be truthful and play nice, cheating spoils the game.

Note: Where I say to bet/post blinds/ante, if you aren't betting, don't. Ok? Get ready to learn!

Step 1: What you'll need:

Picture of What you'll need:
To play most types of poker, you are going to need:

1 Deck of Cards, brand doesn't matter, though I prefer Bicycles. Note: You may need more than one deck if you are playing with a lot of people.

At least 3 friends, if you are playing for money; if not, it is possible to play by yourself, but not very fun. 1 friend should do, but the more, the merrier.

Optional: Card table, but regular tables work, and you need somewhere to put your cards.

Optional: Money, if you are betting.

What the heck does this mean: "Some people work of this when they DO have a good hand but want..."

I think it means: "Some people work like that when they DO have a good hand, but they WANT people to think that they are bluffing."

So a combo of a one and two of hearts is a straight flush?? Didn't seem right. And what does this mean: "Full House (like three 8s and two , you would say, 8s full of )" makes zero sense.
Clear and concise, thanks
I play at school with my friends no money but poker chips

thanks man really it was the most simple and clear explanation of poker!

I live in Vegas and don't know how to playPoker!

Google: Channing Ali for new music

wait, how does everyone use the community cards? Do they take it? Do they just memorize what card they want and then tell the dealer after show their cards or what?

I meant in Texas Holdem, of course.

Thank you so much for the explanation of Texas Hold Em! This was the clearest, easiest and most non-intimidating guide I've read so far. Thank you for including some of the lingo used by veterans. It will help me get into the click. Will share this with my other friends who don't know how to play poker yet!

New people in poker rooms can always experience something fascinating and something annoying.
We play tight.
We get nervous easily.
We pray others would bite the bate when we play slow.
We get frustrated when our two pairs are beaten. And we murmur for a bad beat jackpot ...
All the above is a natural thing for us.
Only after we experience the unexpected, the emergency that may not come up in the books, can we learn to be calm.
Coz then we are old fish.
P.S. if YOU have any further intention of knowing about Texas Holdem, please visit http://www.raidbet.com as your best guide.

strategyTexas HoldemThis is a very good simple introduction for Texas Holdem. I’m looking forward to more detailed information on the strategy or skill part in the future. Waiting!

These are cool articles I have ever read. But one point I am not with you is that poker is a mathematic gaming, the luck is not in favor with anyone. Please add me as collaborator; I think you are interested in pot odds and other poker strategies. Visit Raidbet

You might want to include some notes about the differences between "casino rules" and "home rules." I've never played poker at a casino, but your description of Blackjack doesn't sound anything like the (small stakes) games I've played in Vegas, betting-wise. In particular, each player at a Vegas blackjack table plays ONLY against the dealer, so there's no "best hand wins" among the other players. Also, the casino dealer operates under exact an deterministic rules about when they "hit" and when then "stop"; you could play an entire game of Vegas blackjack with the cards all face up, except the dealer's hole card, and it won't change anything...

Since I'm only 13, I've never been inside a casino or even seen games played in a casino (like on TV). I kind of just figured they would be similar, if not the same. Would you like me to collaborate so you could add what you know? You could also just PM the information and I will add it and credit it to you. Thanks.

You 'burn' the top card in case someone has a 'tell' or mark of some kind on it so that no one knows what the next card up will be. For instance, if you have been playing for a while, and someone might dent the edge of all the aces (and the middle of the kings...) with their fingernail (or a sharp bit on their ring...) so that they know when and where that card is going to be. 'Burning' the top card in the deck helps to stop that from working.

Thanks, I'll get that changed. I've just never understood it.
