Since you're going to be covering the edges anyways I'd recomend going ahead and nailing everything together (some of those tiny black nails should work just fine), and don't trust that hinge to hotglue alone. It comes with screws, you should use them. All in all this is a pretty good Instructable.

The screws that came with it were wayyy to big. It wouldn't hurt to use some small wood screws with the hinges, but the chest lid weighs so little, I trust the hot glue on mine, but to each his own. As for using nails, you could, I was just worried about splitting the wood since it's so thin...
