Introduction: Lego Man Costume

As many costume party's come up i always think of something original and the lego man is one i had not seen before so i set you to do it. It was fairly tricky to work out an idea as it has some complex curves in it.

Step 1: Cutting Base

The first step is to cut out some rings from cardboard. As can be seen in the photo there is a ring on the inside. Simply cut the outside diameter to the size of the head you would like. The inside of the ring needs to be big enough for your head to fit in.

Now cut another circle with the same outside diameter no hole in the middle needed this time. These two act as the top and bottom frame supports. Now use a thin cardboard, more of a strong paper and roll it around the two rings. This is the white cardboard as shown in the photo. I used a hot glue gun to stick it as i rolled it, it is strong and sets quickly.

Step 2: Top and Bottom Curves

This is the tricky step, and it can take a while to finish.

I used a pringles box. The chips in a tube. Cut this length ways into quarters. Then cut these strips into smaller sections as shown in the photo. The smaller you cut them the better results you will get but the longer it will take.

Glue one piece onto the top of the head. Then place another on there and glue it on as well and align them as well as you can. You may need to fold it a bit more with your fingers to make it fit nice.

Do this to the top and bottom i also used hot glue here.

Step 3: The Top and Face

Now the top needs to be capped off. Cut a circle out of cardboard and glue it to the top to the tube wrapped around the edges.

Now cut a smaller circle which will be the cylinder thats on the top of the lego guys heads.
Wrap a thin bit of cardboard around this also in a similar fashion to the main body of the head.

Simply glue this to the top of the head.
(Sorry i didnt take any photos of this being made)

Now draw a sketch off how you would like the face to look. Then cut the holes for you eyes and mouth. I found the holes for the mouth and eyes lines up well to match the propotions of a lego head as well as match my face.

Step 4: Paint

Now paint your head. I needed several layers to cover the green of the top and bottom but all in all turned out well.

Step 5: Body

The body is the simple bit. Simply cut out the shape of the body in a bit of cardboard, Make sure you have a big bit of cardboard as it needs to make the front and back. Cut a hole at the top where you head comes through.

Remember the shape of a lego body it is square but larger at the bottom. Simple shape.

Then paint it to what ever style you want. Search google for different designs. I like this fancy classy guy in a suit.

Now your costume is complete. And no doubt will be best at the party.
