Introduction: Light Up Redstone Lamp Papercraft

I was looking around on the Instructables website for interesting things you could do with papercrafts- Minecraft ones, specifically. Oddly enough, I didn't really see any, although it wouldn't be vey difficult to, say, make a glowstone block light up.Therefore, I made this simple little project that is great if you like making models and papercraft objects. Doesn't take very long either!

Step 1: Materials and Tools

You will need:

- AA Battery holder
- Yellow Poster Board
- A white LED
- A switch or button
-Texture of a Redstone Lamp block (I got mine from http://minecraftpapercraft.com/papercraft/508b082e9689c9394c000003/redstone-lamp-on-faithful-32x) on a piece of printer paper
- AA Batteries (not shown)
-Clear tape
-Electrical tape
-Scissors

Step 2: Setup

Align the poster board so it is perfectly aligned with the paper that has your printed template on it. I recommend taping the two together so they will not slide during cutting.

Step 3: Cutting

Cut along the lines of the template. If you did things correctly, it should look something like this.

Step 4: Folding

Fold the box together and tape it so it looks like this. *Note: It is imperative that you do not seal the block yet, otherwise the light will be unable to be inserted.*

Step 5: Adding the LED

Poke 2 holes in a side of the block, then stick the legs of the LED through them.

Step 6: Wiring

This is the only tricky part. Put one of the legs of the LED through one of the switch prongs, and connect the red wire from the battery holder to the prong in the middle of the switch. Then, using electical tape, connect the black wire to the other leg.

I recommend testing the system prior to moving on to the next step, simply becuse it would be easier to fix any problems before the block is sealed.

Step 7: Finishing Up

Tape the last part closed, and you're finshed! There are probably a lot of things that can be improved, such as the battery pack (though you could probably hide that in another block), but overall this makes for a nice addition to any papercraft model you make. Feel free to use a differnt texture if you don't want the lamp.
