Introduction: LightUp LED Flowers
I'e decided to spice up my recent forays into origami decoration with some LEDs! These flowers are pretty without being able to light up, but I think the light in the center adds something dynamic to the decoration that would otherwise be a simple origami flower.
Step 1: You Will Need
Some large squares of craft paper, a ruler, scissors, and a pen.
Step 2: Cut Out Squares
To make the 5 petals of the flower, you will need 5 squares of the same size. For your first time, I recommend using around 10cm long sides. Anything too much larger or smaller is harder to handle.
Step 3: Make the Base
Fold a square in half diagonally. Then take the two corners of the triangle, and fold them up towards the third corner. This will make two smaller "sideways" triangles. Collapse these triangles and you get something like in the second picture (I forgot to take a picture the first time around, but origami folds are so confusing I made a quick intermediate example with a post it note, hence the change in color). Finally, take the two protruding flaps and fold them over.
Step 4: Complete Petal
Notice that the two "flaps" have creases down the middle. Fold these inward so that the entire origami is a square. Add some glue to one of the new triangular panels that just appeared, and gently loop the square around to glue the two new panels together.
Do steps 3-4 and make petals for each square that you cut out.
Step 5: Make the Flower!
If you don't feel like adding the LEDs, this is your last step! All you have to do is glue the 5 petals together, forming a flower.
The easiest way to do this is by gluing the sides of two petals together as a pair (there will be 2 pairs, and a single petal), and then gluing these together in a circle to form the flower.
Step 6: Light Up LED
Take a small battery, and tape the two ends of a small LED to both sides - this completes an extremely basic circuit, and if your battery and LED are working properly, you should see it light up!
Step 7: A Light Up Flower!
Open up the middle of the flower and tape the battery to the insides. Then collapse the middle over the battery to hide it so you only see the LED lighting up the center of the flower. You're done! If you've made it this far, congratulations on your pretty light up origami flower. Use it to decorate your room, and impress your friends.
