yes, absolutely yes. despite the lack of a nose it's not that terrible to try throwing up a manual, and sliding is great

Thank you, there is no longboarding store near me, so i can go make these from home depot for cheap! I watched a kid slide with his leather wallet before, so this looks better than trashed debit cards.

Great step by step and video. Also should try welding gloves as a base they are thick and heat resistant.

nice instructable!! i found that corian works better for palm pucks then use cutting board for the finger and thumb pucks. i also went to home de poe and got some good gloves for 10 bucks. i also used industrial strength velcro and put glue on it. mine work great!!!

Hey nice instructable!!!!!! i have found that if you cut the pads down then i can get a better grip on the board. i can already do the basic forward and back slides but im working on the coleman slide, got any pointers?

How are the grizzlys, I was thinking about getting them since you can switch them out from carving trucks to downhill trucks, but instead i went for some gullwings

Late reply,haha.
The Grizzlys are pretty good. For carving,a Paris or Randall would be better but they're definitely not that bad to carve.I haven't tried to DH them yet,but they should be okay with some DH bushings.

i have done some pretty minor sliding, and all I needed was a large palm pad and some duct tape on the fingers. It works good for me, I put most of the weight on the palm pad and the fingers just drag a little bit.

Great Instructable! This may be the first that I actually read through and tried (except for throwies)! Here's a pic of mine (if it uploaded right). Only I used CA glue and SUG gloves for a snugger fit. I also rounded off the edges and corners with 40 and then 150 grit (it's all I had) to prevent catching. I also recommend looking for the most serious kind of velcro you can find and putting the bristle-ish side on the pads and the fury side on the gloves. This is because the furrier stuff bends a bit easier to fit the contour of your fingers when they bend. The stiffer side naturally makes more sense on the pads. I might also add thumb pads later.

I just did this(twice actually) and got a few tips: 1. Don't use the cheapest gloves at WalMart, find gloves that have a separate thumb section that fits your hand when you open your hand. That makes it easier to get your thumb out of the way so you may not need a pad (or not a big one) 2. I used one big squarish pad in the palm and big rectangle one for the fingers (don't know which way is better but this way works pretty good) 3. instead of Velcro I melted one side of the cutting board and stuck it on the glove, this may work better for some fabric than others.

Teflon(r) cutting board? It's not Teflon(r), it's polyethylene. DuPont Teflon(r), like T-Fal(r) and Silverstone(tm), are non-stick coatings used on frying pans, fire-resistant wire insulator, and other applications. If you think about it, no adhesive would stick the Teflon(r) to the Velcro(r).

Yes... but thats only one application of Teflon (google: PTFE, Teflon...)

BTW I'd use UHMW if I made a pair.

Awsome! Just what I needed! $4 sliding gloves! *wonders: hmmmmmm..........I wonder If i could invent new tricks for aggressive sk8ers with them.*
Aug 21, 2007. 10:20 PMaeray says:
The tool is a block or possibly bench plane, not a planer. Planers are powered by something other than human power and have a rotating cutterhead. The material is polyethylene, specifically HDPE, high density polyethylene.

An alternative to cutting boards is Corian, it works great and you can get free samples at Home Depot or Lowes.

thats cool... nice instructable. maybe you should make shoes with that stuff on the bottom and just go sliding around with those and the gloves.
