i would use maple its hard and sturdy just the kind u need i would use thin sheets of them and glue them with wood glue this is the type they use for most of the boards the best company's use like landyachtz which makes the best downhill/freestyle boards

I have a question for you, what is the difference when shape of the board change? like on these two pictures
Oct 13, 2010. 2:19 PMwazupdoc says:
i have been longboarding for a long time the first is a sector 9 sandwege and the second is also sector 9 the difference is that the one on the right is a shorter board so if u want freestyle thats cool the one on the left is longer and its more of a downhill deck even though it comes with side winder trucks personalty if your thinking of buying one i wouldn't get a sector nine unless your new to longboarding bc sector nine is okay but i would suggest getting a landyathz bc they make the best longbooards i currently have the switch by them and i have grizzly trucks and in heat orangatange wheels i would suggest this board or any of their downhill/freestyle boards, dont make the mistake of getting a bamboo deck i think they flex to much and u cant do anything on them ,goodluck!

do the shape of the board matters?
Dec 12, 2010. 3:44 PMisaac! says:
yes it matters. Ive been longboarding for about 2 years. a few basic guidelines: The lower to the ground, the more stable the board is. in order to aceive this, some boards are bent down, like the Evo, or some have drop through trucks like the Landyachtz Drop Hammer. also, stability is better when the feet are locked into the board. this is called a foot pocket. a good foot pocket is created when the nose is curled up slightly. your feet feel very snug on a board like this like the landyachtz carbon Mummy. When the board is to be used for carving, wheel bite is a dangerous possibility, so often the board above the wheels is narrower so that the wheels can't contact the board, like the Loaded dervish. For dancing, a longer board is better because you have more room: see the Loaded Dancer. One other thing is that for commuter and cruise boards, a kicktail is useful for going off curbs. other than that, generally board shape is a matter of personal style. Professionally made boards are engineered for these purposes, with great results. However, a homemade board is less likely to be used in high performance situations, so whatever style you want is fine.

I'm pretty new to this whole boarding thing, and I don't really like skateboarding, would you think longboarding is easier?I would only be using it for commuting,so no need for special boards.I'm looking at Bustin Board's spliff(?) since they ship here.
Any advise would be appreciated.

I just don't like the stiffness of the skateboard.
Also,how does this setup sound?
Bustin Spliff
Seismic extra light trucks
Bones Reds bearings.
Abec 11 Grippins 70mm.

the higher the deromiter the easier to slide, also you can use simple physics, bigger the contact patch, the more friction
Aug 11, 2008. 3:37 PMzapconquest says:
What are the best kind of wheels for sliding (what size too)? Also, I noticed in the sliding videos those were skateboards, not longboards.
Apr 12, 2010. 4:45 PMsammchugh says:
If you're riding a more traditional longboard shape I suggest using 63mm 95a durometer Tunnel Rocks. They wear pretty well and they have a huge contact surface which is nice for a big board, and besides they're pretty classic.
Oct 14, 2008. 12:01 AMcorkey123 says:
rainskates are the sliding wheels to get, specifically designed to slide, killer bees are the most popular of the rainskates line
Mar 14, 2010. 5:59 PMPatented says:
so basicaly, could you just put long board trucks and wheel on a normal board and it will go at the same speed?
Mar 14, 2010. 6:00 PMPatented says:
I mean normal skateboard (classic) board

just a small correction: loaded does have a downhill board, the vanguard started as a downhill board, but it's mostly used for sliding, carving and general freestyle.

Very Nice Guide, But, i feel like its missing a key element, Carving! sure carving on a longboard is one of the most obvious things you do, but extreme carving (like i do) is won of the best types of longboarding

i finished my homemade so ill post a slideshow soon. its nice for cruising but not really that good for dancing. i want to get a good dancing board but also one that is good for commuting. i was looking at the loaded dervish but that is at the very top of my budget(considering im only a teenager) and plus idk if my parents will let me get another board. they are pretty strict about having 2 things that do bacically the same thing..... well then y does my dad have like 3 different power drills?????*sarcasm* anyway, do you have any suggestions for a coulpe boards that i could check out that are good for both dancing and commuting but that are not over 300 dollars? 200 dollars would be better though. so if you have any suggestions that would be great.

thanks
quesoman

sounds good ill check it out. i also found a loaded dervish on daddies board shop for 245 dollars. my dad said that we would look into it but my mom was totally uniterested. i dont think they view longboarding as a "legit" sport.
