This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a nice blanket for a loved one

Step 1: Gathering Your Materials

What You'll Need: A rectangular loom Yarn color(or colors) of your choice Yarn needle Sewing needle Scissors

Step 2: Preparing Your Loom

Next you need to pick a side to start on your loom even though it really doesn't matter which. Now take your yarn. If your yarn is thick you could use 1 strand of yarn. If not, find the point where your yarn will come out of. There should be 2. One at one end of your yarn and another already pulled out.

Step 3: Slip Knot

The first thing we need to do is to make a slip not. There are many ways to do this. Method 1:wrap the yarn around your index finger twice leaving the loose strand pointing toward the ground and at the end of your finger. Now pull the leftmost strand over the one on the right. Next take the string that was originally on the right and pull it back over the string that is now on the right. Now hold the loose strand pull up on the only strand left on your finger. Now you have a slip knot! Method 2:make a loop in the yarn(don't tie it). Next insert the loose strand of yarn into the loop. Now catch it between your index finger and your thumb. Now pull on your working yarn(strand connected to the rest of your yarn).

Step 4: Starting Off

Place the slip knot on the first peg to the right on the side nearest to you. Next, take the working yarn and bring it behind peg 2 and back in front. You are basically making a loop around the pegs. Now do the same around the entire loom. When you come to the end of one side bring your yarn straight across to the other side. Continue to loop. When you get to the end, go straight across to the first side you began on and continue to loop. When you are finished, you should have a bottom and a top row of loops on each peg. Tie a slip not onto the peg sticking out of the loom.

Step 5: Knitting on the Loom

Now you will need your knitting hook. Use it to pull the bottom strand/loop on the peg over the first one. Once again start on the rightmost peg on the side closest to you or the side opposite of the last peg you wrapped. Continue to lift the bottom most strand over the topmost until you get to the end of your loom. You have now done one row.

Step 6: Making the Blanket

Continue to lift the bottom peg over the first one all around the loom. After every time around the loom and only one strand is left, you need to wrap around each peg so that there are 2 strands per peg all around the loom. Continue this method of wrapping the knitting.

Step 7: Your Blanket Pattern

To make this blanket your own, you must choose how to put it together. I chose to create a pattern. To make a square you need to do 30 rows of knitting(wrapping the pegs is not a row). Then I sewed 5 of them in a straight line. Then I did long rectangular rows. For these do only 140 rows instead of 150 to get them all even. Sew these long ways to the 5 squares to create a pattern. Alternate between rectangle and 5 squares. Or you could do all rectangular panels or you can use squares to piece it together for a quilt like look. You can make your blanket as long and wide as you like it's completely up to you!

Step 8: Enjoy!

This blanket pattern can be used in multiple ways. Whether you are traveling or giving a baby doll and a toddler a source of comfort, this blanket is very useful. One plus is that since we used a rectangle loom with 2 sides, this blanket is twice as thick as a normal one! Enjoy everyone and comment. This is my first instructable, so I hope you all enjoy it!
