I found this quote online and I loved it. So, I made one of my own to go in my bedroom across from my bed for my husband and I, and we can see it every time we look at that wall. I love the way this turned out. I hope you like it, too.

Step 1: Supplies

Vinyl and Vinyl Cutter for Stencil

Frame with Glass

Etching Cream

Spray Paint

Cardboard cut to your frame size

Brushes or Sponges

Rubbing Alcohol

Cotton Balls

Step 2: Design Your Stencil

If you are lucky enough to have a Silhouette Vinyl Cutter and the lovely program to create your design, then you know what to do. If not, you may need to use masking tape and a stencil to get the results you want. After I created the design, I cut the vinyl to fit and put it into the cutter to watch this amazing machine go. I borrowed this cutter from an awesome friend as I am not cool enough to own one myself. Once the cutter did it's really cool job, I used an X-Acto knife to pull the letters up from the design. After it was fully weeded, I put masking vinyl over it to transfer the lettering to my sheet of glass. I peeled the masking off before scraping the vinyl to make sure there weren't any air bubbles. This is very important as you want the font to be smooth and clean. I then brushed etching cream over the entire piece, making sure all of the words and letters were covered completely. I let the cream set for about 30 minutes while I worked on the next two steps. After I allowed the cream to have plenty of time to work, I cleaned the glass off, making sure to rinse really well to keep the etching cream from marking the parts of the glass I don't want it to be on. I then removed the vinyl and cleaned the glass with rubbing alcohol and cotton balls. This helps get rid of any residual cream and fingerprints.

Step 3: The Frame

I was not lucky enough to have a frame that was the color I wanted, so I had to paint mine. I didn't have any black spray paint so I had to use acrylic. It worked just fine until I find something else.

Step 4: Paint the Background

I didn't want a typical white or black background. This is going into my bedroom and our colors are black, burgundy, and silver (in all shades as long as its shiny). So I took a cardboard backing from the frame and spray painted in burgundy first. I did this in two coats with 20 min drying time in between. When that was fully dried, I took silver metallic paint and lightly sprayed it over the burgundy in a light coating. Just enough to make it shiny but with enough of the red to show through to match our room.

Step 5: Put It All Togther

So, now that you have etched, rinsed, painted and painted again, it's time to put it all together. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how to put the glass in, put the painted cardboard behind it, put the backing in and locking the frame together and then hanging it on your wall. Granted, it's not hanging on my wall, yet, but as soon as I find our nails, it's going up!
