Introduction: Low Waste Low Spillage Chicken Feeder

Cheap to make low waste chicken feeder for those chickens that are messy eaters.

The video tells how it works and how to make and fill it up. The basic difference between it and the normal circle type feeder is that the bowl is deeper and there is less space for a chicken to grab and sling the feed. The eating area is smaller. They both hold about the same amount of feed. One is tall and skinny and the other is short and fat. The same amount of feed last 3 times longer. (This is based on only a few days of use so far.

Please feel free to ask additional questions.

Thanks for watching.

Update - We no longer use the funnel thingie shown in the video to fill up the 4 inch PVC tube. While looking around in tractor supply, I found a plastic watering can with a handle a spout. I cut off the spout about half way from the can to the tip of the spout so the end of the spout is now large enough for chicken feed to flow out of. Now about every few days we just make a run down the chicken house and fill each feeder up from the watering can full of chicken feed. Much easier than the funnel thingie shown.

It is a video. One picture is simply of the finished product.

This is a great idea! I remember when I had chickens they spilled so much food! How much food does the tube hold? How often do you have to refill it? How many chickens can comfortably use it?

I would think about 12 heavy breed chickens could go for 3 days.
