That's right. Some mopeds have oil in the gearbox. The oil gets dirty pretty fast, especially if your moped motor has performance parts on it. Change it often. In this instructable, I am changing the oil on a 1978 Puch Maxi, with an E50 motor on it.

Step 1: Parmesan Cheese Container

It's not a bad idea to get the oil nice and hot before you change it. Running the motor mixes all the sludge and crud with the oil, so when you drain the oil, all the muck and greck go out with it. Also, heat is a great cleaner. It works wonders. Try riding around the block a few times before you start, let the motor warm up. That should do it. But if you do, be mindful of the hot pipe while your working, or you might end up with pipeburn. If you do get pipeburn, be sure to brag to all your buddies about it, and how cool you are.

Anyways. You'll need a container to catch the oil. I used a plastic parmesan cheese container. It worked GREAT! If you don't have a parmesan cheese container, try to find another container that will fit under the motor and catch the oil. Parmesan cheese container are the best though.

In this picture, the parmesan cheese container is already full of nasty oil. Just imagine that the parmesan cheese container is empty.

Step 2: Unplug Duh Plug.

You might want to put on some latex gloves at this point, it's about to get messy....

Once you have your parmesan cheese container safely placed directly underneath the drain, locate the drain bolt. It's a 13mm hex bolt. Find it and then put a wrench on it. You'll need to turn the bolt to the left, which gets confusing, since , if you're on your knees, the bolt is upside down.... If you were laying on your back, facing the bolt, you would turn the wrench to the left. Just make the bolt loose with the wrench, then turn it the rest of the way out by hand.

WhooOOOoooOOOoooOOooosh! here comes the dirty oil.

Let it fully drain. Give it 10 minutes or so. Be sure to put the washer back on the drain bolt. If the old one is trashed, replace with a new one. If you don't have a new one, make one. A cereal box? Juice cartons work well, I hear. Get creative. Put the drain bolt back into it's hole. Screw it back in finger tight, then use the wrench to snug it down. Don't strip the threads.

Step 3: Fill'er Up!

Grab a flat screwdriver. We're gunna remove the oil fill plug It's a big sucker, so grab a big screwdriver. Remove said bolt.

I found this awesome bottle for filling the E50 motor. It holds just the right amount of oil. The bottle claims to be just under 3oz, just sayin'. It was full of hair dye before. I put some full synthetic 5W-20 oil in there. The nozzle fits neatly into the fill hole on the E50 motor, which is on the right hand side, BTW. 1 bottle fills the motor perfectly. When the oil starts coming out of the fill hole, yer done. Screw the fill bolt back into the side of the case.

Yeeeee-haw! We're done. Go ride around on your moped with a babe on the back!
