Step 4 Riggin' up a pickup winder

There are a lot of things you can use as a pickup winder. You could use your hands, obviously, but that can be kind of slow and inaccurate. You could also use a drill or electric screwdriver.

I chose to use a sewing machine, mainly because it's really easy to rig up and use. On the side of all sewing machines there is a wheel type thing that spins around. This is where you want to secure your bobbin. I'm not sure about other sewing machines, but on the one I used there was a small, short screw on this wheel. I removed this and stuck a longer screw through one of the holes on the bottom piece of my bobbin and secured it in the wheel.

thousands, just keep going untill it looks right, honestly, this part is hard to screw up and you cant really overdo it

Depends on what sound you're going for. 4500 wraps is underwound, and will have a clearer sound. If you want hotter, crunchier pickups, go with 5500 - 6000. 5000 is pretty average.

Yea the more turns the stronger the output, if you want high gain, and a hardcore sound use more turns, few turns for a lower, mellow clean, warm output, but that doesnt mean 8000 turns is going to make you an awesome metal god! LOL it will pick up more noise though.Jukebox has it pretty straightforward right though, I talk too much.

Man thats fast thats 15 min. is 900 seconds, so 6000 turns divided by 900 seconds is like 6.7 turns per second, I am lucky to get 4 turns a second, but Im gettin old, How did yours sound?

Does the copper wire all have to be touching the screws or does it matter? I'm sure by the 5000th wind you are bound to over lap

no, as long as there is a good layer around the magnets, or in your case screws, then that will do for the touching, u definitely need some overlap though, lol!
