Introduction: Make a Spooky Halloween Fat Ball Feeder for Garden Birds

Halloween is a fab time of year to get creative in the garden. Why not have a go at making this Spooky Fat Ball Feeder for your garden birds?

Providing food for garden birds is a great way to help wildlife in your garden. Fat balls offer a great high energy treat for birds any time of year but especially in autumn and winter months.

You'll need the following items:

Spooky Salad Servers (£1 from Asda), a scrap of wood, two screws and a cable tie.

Tools Required:

Hand saw, Drill, Screwdriver

Step 1: Put It All Together

Cut a piece of timber 150mm x 50mm and drill (x4) holes along the centre line (the two outer holes are for mounting the feeder and the two inner holes are for attaching the spooky salad servers). Give the piece of wood a coat of wood preservative of paint.

Carefully drill a hole in the end of the handle of each hand.

Attach the spooky salad server hands to the piece of timber using a couple of screws.

Fix a cable tie around the pair of hands mid way along their handles. This will add a little extra tension between the hands and will help securely hold the fat ball.

Step 2: Fix Your New Spooky Fat Ball Feeder Into Position

Attach the Spooky Fat Ball Holder to a fence or your shed and place a fat ball securely in the hands. Then step back and wait for your first visitors to arrive!
