There! You made a salted water leyden jar!

I also added a magnet and a ball to make it more "Leyden Jar" like.

I measured the capacitance of my leyden jar, and my meter reads 946pF, that is about 1nF! that is quite high for this small leyden jar!

I tried this with foil tape both on the inside and outside of the jar. It didn't work . Most likely because the adhesive acts as an insulator so the joints do not conduct. I wouldn't recommend using foil tape. I figured this would be a problem before the build but I thought I'd try anyway.

nice  job!!!!!!!!!
1 question:what exactly would this be used for wen fully charged?

tesla coil or some thing

Get a 3/4inch by 3-4 ft long pvc pipe and get an old cotton shirt and slide the pipe back and forth with the cloth in your left hand right over the layden jar. (don't touch the metal part just induce the charge through the air.)

Holy freakin crap i found this site yesterday and have never felt this stupid. Ever. I wanna do cool stuff and laser beams an all this crap. I think my eyes are bleeding

wtf is an nF or pF?
Sep 28, 2008. 3:56 PMAnarchistAsian says:
nF - nano Faraday pF - pico Faraday a Faraday is a unit of energy there are 1000 pF in 1 nF

isn't it Farad?

yeah

May I correct you... Faraday is a measure of capacity, not energy. Joule is a measure of energy.
1 F = the whole capacity of the Earth itself. Since that is not achievable, smaller units are used.

Eh...no you may not. :P

Actually, there are 1 F capacitors out there. They are used for enormous car stereo systems. Take a look: http://www.nextag.com/1-farad-capacitor/search-html

They are used because a very big system can steal all of the electricity from the rest of the car (effectively turning it off) when it hits a low bass. The capacitor is used to keep your car going.

just ordered two 2600 2.5V capacitors

small compared to the 3000 farad ones theyre rated at 3.something volts

OOPS, yeah, sorry, i meant capacity, i just glanced at the comment and made a quick comment... and yeah, i know what a joule is, i was just calculating the power in my capacitors a few days ago for my COIL GUNZZZZ

well, he knows alot about it... and yeah... electrons, how they react in low temperatures, etc...
Mar 2, 2009. 2:19 PMReCreate says:
uh,yeah they use liquid helium to achieve super conductivity, its almost absolute zero
Jan 6, 2012. 3:19 PMfreeza36 says:
superfluids and supersolids? nice....
Oct 30, 2009. 7:09 AMbears0 says:
thats cool why dont they do that for extension cords so they dont lose power
Oct 30, 2009. 11:10 AMReCreate says:
Because it may be pretty hard to supercool miles of cable. ;)
Oct 14, 2008. 2:28 AMKryptonite says:
in extreeemely low temperatures (like almost absolute zero) electrons slow down loads, so they're hardly moving, this makes different materials act strangely, magnets become super super powerful. they're thinking of making train track that run on magnets that are at absolute zero so that they can save energy because to move the train it's like 1 poke and it keeps goin almost infinitely.

This is amazing because it's never been done and all of this is theory. And to freeze the magnets that cold would take more energy than just running the train normally.
I think that somebody (namely awesomecated smart people from this site)should just think of a way thats a bit more economic.

i thought about making a generator just out of magnets and electromagnets
and the electromagnets will be powered by the power the generator makes and extra power will be sent to your house

they got schematics for building, magnetically opperated motors without using power, i believe its under the utube video just type in Bedini motor and you will find it, im working on a fully operational magnet motor using neodenium magnets in three separete discs, all interlocked using a 5 degree angle counter clockwise assembly, for a total of 216 magnets hope to be able to make it with my wood lathe, out of acrylic compound and drilling and implanting magnets 10 degrees apart.

that should allow fields to interact when outer magnets are engaged to allow fully usable energy to power a generator and run a inverter with the help of a capacitance bank, then the sky's the limit and power your own house, also have been experimenting on radiant energy, Nicoli Tesla had something our rich oil enteprenours or government didnt want published, how would they then, line their pockets all along with the automotive industry, just think cars with gasoline engine machines would be a thing of the past, that my friend is why its a hush hush situation, just think of the cascading effect and the things that would be affected.

WOW!!!!!!
