Lesson Overview:

Now we'll learn to send our own messages!

Step 1: Create Your Own Message

Picture of Create Your Own Message

In this lesson you will use what you learned in the previous lesson to create your own messages. The three functions you will need are:

short_pulse();

long_pulse();

delay(letter_pause);

or delay(word_pause);

You can also use functions to create preset letters or words.

Don't forget to insert the proper delay after each letter or word.

  1. Start by pressing the 'Code Editor' button in the top right hand corner.
  2. Your Morse Code Machine currently transmits the message SOS. You can create your own functions similar to how we created the function for SOS. Go ahead and use the chart below to program your own message. Try creating functions for individual letters or words.
  3. Once you have programmed the message you want, try altering some of the variables at the top of your program in the Code Editor. Each one of those variables stores a small amount of information about your program and how it functions. If you change these numbers it will change how your program behaves.
  4. Once you are done programming, continue to the next step. HINT: If you want to try your code on a physical Arduino you can download your code by pressing the 'Download Code' button in the Code Editor window.
