Introduction: Make Your Own Homemade Tomato Sauce Using Fresh Tomatoes and All Natural Ingredients

About: I'm just finishing up building my wood fired pizza bus. I may make an instructable on how I built it later. Opening Fall 2023, hopefully...

In this Instructable, I will show you an easy way to make pasta sauce using fresh tomatoes and all natural ingredients.  I started with 10 medium sized tomatoes still on the vine.  You can adjust the ingredients to suit you as well.

Step 1: Preparing to Skin the Tomatoes

First, you get containers for the water and the ice.  I used 2 one gallon containers and 3 trays of ice.  I split the ice in between the containers and added cold water until the ice was floating about 4 inches.

Step 2: Boiling the Tomato Skin

Boil 6 cups of water.  Once the water starts boiling, set the tomatoes in the boiling water for  'One Minute'

Step 3: Freezing the Tomato Skin

After one minute, get some tongs or a fork and take tomatoes out of boiling water and put straight into the icy water.

Step 4: Peel the Tomato Skin

Once you drop all of your tomatoes in the ice water, immediately take tomatoes out of ice water and the skin should peel right off.

Step 5: Rinse Tomatoes

Step 6: Cut Tomatoes Into Slices

Cut the tomatoes into slices.  You can cut into bigger slices than I did.

Step 7: Separate Water & Seeds From Tomato

You basically want to take the water and seeds out of the tomato and discard it.  You can choose to use it in the sauce but the sauce will be runny, not thick.  If you cut tomato into smaller slices, it just means more work but I chose to cut small pieces so I can also cut out the bad parts in the tomato.  Place the slices of tomato into a blender.

Step 8: Blend Tomato for 2 Minutes

Once you separate the tomato you will put the tomato into a blender and blend for 2 minutes.  I blended half of my tomatoes at a time.

Step 9: Finishing Your Homemade Sauce

Once the tomato is blended, put the paste into a deep cooking pan adding 8 tbsp. of butter or margarine.  Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.  Once at a full boil, cut back heat to SIMMER and cover, stirring frequently for 45 minutes.  The sauce will slowly thicken.  I can't say it enough but stir frequently.  Then add your ingredients and cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

2 tsp chopped garlic
1 tsp white pepper
2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp parsley
2 tsp oregano
4 fresh basil leaves
1 tbsp olive oil

I made Ziti with Meatballs with this sauce and I thought it turned out pretty good.  This was my first time actually making my own sauce from scratch.
