First off Top job!

I am only just starting off with the Arduino and I have never coded before, I am slowly picking bits up but I would not even know where to start regarding showing animations instead of text.

Do you have an example of an animation code I can study please?

Hi SystemX, this is a great project. Iam a newbie but quite keen on building this. I am a bit confused though with regards to the connections. I hope you dont mind clearing these up. Many thanks in advance for your time.

1. Columns formed by positive leads?
2. Also any sources where i can look up for connections for the registers, decade counter, transistors and Arduino connections. I know you have put the schematic but iam into electronics out of interest but novice to interpret the schematics.
3. I have the Arduino Dumelianove board with ATMEG328 on it...do i need to bootload it to use with this project?

But if you are talking about the scrolling words then this things get lost

How do you keep the resistors in the LED array cool when you run it for extended time periods? I made a slightly different array but when I run it for more than a couple of minutes it gets so hot i can smell the solder.

My resistors stay cool all of the time.
Maybe you used a low wattage resistors? if the resistors really small they are most likely have a low wattage. you could try and 1/4 watt of 1/2 resistor

Do you run the Led throw the computer only or through a small little power supply, Like for instance i where to add this to a costume.

In this case the PC supplys the power to the matrix, but you can use a 5V power supply instad and run it on battery power.
